Is it legal to carry 1lb LP bottles in your side compartment for an LP grill stored in your mt chain box? If not legal, what are the fines? I’m very curious about this.

Mostly legal. They need to be upright and 'secured' - ie strapped in to prevent movement, so the chain box would work for the grill but the LP would need to be in a side box where you could rig some bungees.
However, it is STRICTLY against company policy, so before the truck goes into a company shop you would need to take precautions like moving everything into an interior cabinet or taking it with you.Cherokee65 Thanks this. -
The cold, hard truth:
You will most likely NEVER make great money as a truck driver -- without that hazmat endorsement.

All the great-paying, non-flatbed/car hauler gigs involve/require a hazmat endorsement:
- DOT Transportation
- all the LTL fleets
- hazmat tanker fleets (e.g., LPG, CO2)
- Walmart Transportation
- & more
- charcoal
- fingernail polish remover
- hairsprays
- paints/paint thinners
- household cleaners (e.g., bleach)
- booze

He is exactly right. I haul hazardous waste every day. I have done it tanks, dumps, rolloffs, and vans. I have never done virgin products however, and most of the waste has been no touch.Friend, Cherokee65 and Albertaflatbed Thank this.

The bottom line: don't let the hazmat world intimidate you. By doing so -- you're leaving A LOT of money on the table.

Hauled a hazmat load once, found upon delivery the load consisted of 20-something pallets of freezer door seals and a smallish (like, five pounds or less) box of toothpaste tube sized tubes of adhesive/sealant that was the 'hazmat' part of the load. You never know, but gotta have the endorsement.Cherokee65 and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this. -

I drove Haz Mat tanker bulk daily before I retired. Only time I had to climb up the trailer was to open the lid some the plant could pump out the oil then close the lid. Home every day. $27 an hour and time and half after forty. Guaranteed 40 hours a week if I didn’t drive due to the weather or no loads that day. Earned PTO and paired holidays and the two weeks off between Christmas and New Year’s with pay. Best driving job I ever had but it was time to retire.
Friend, Cherokee65, Albertaflatbed and 1 other person Thank this. -
Sorry. Paid holidays

Think of it like this:
Tanker endorsement: can pull a tank, haul bulk liquids in totes. Can also move you to the front of the line for loads, depending on where your at, at a given time. Also a big help in the reefer world.
HM: Can consist of god only knows plus tanker work.
D-T: With the HM and Tanker will almost put you at the front of the line for a LTL company.
Get all 3 and go make some money.Friend, Cherokee65, Gearjammin' Penguin and 2 others Thank this.
