Politicians are making it extremely easy for illegals and immigrants to obtain a CDL and start driving all around the country in a tractor trailer, but how come it isn't the same for getting a commercial pilot license so they can start flying all over the country?
Why is obtaining a CDL much more accessible that people in charge are bending rules left and right, than it is to obtain a commercial pilot license?
Obtaining a CDL isn't as strict as a commercial pilot license?

Maybe because trucks dont normally fly, planes do.
Flying is much more difficut than driving a truck, imho.
Kind of hope that's a rhetorical question -
Well, I have a friend that has spent the last 18 months and north of $20k in training to become a pilot - so I have some insight.

I dont have a commerical, but I have a rotary, private. Can do much more damage with something that flys.Numb, blairandgretchen, The_vett and 1 other person Thank this.

This may soon be ending...especially if the underlying corruption causes enough carnage/destruction of property to produce the requisite political & legal "blowback".

It's always been easy to get a CDL, long before this nationwide obsession with illegals got trendy. Company sponsored training, 3 weeks and you gotta job. Go to a private school, 3 weeks training, and many companies come with the hopes of bringing in as many newbies as possible. All the while, the only thing a newbie knows about trucking is what was on the exam. Recite to the examiner what to look for in a pretrip, you pass. Simple. Pay a few grand for class, you gotta CDL. Simple. Government gives megas money to put folks to work, training gets fast tracked. See how that works?

It’s easy to get a CDL because it’s not difficult to drive a truck. If they made it to where training was required, took a lot of time, and was expensive then the mega carriers wouldn’t have a driver pool to pull from. I’d say it’s more the fault of the ATA and its member companies than it is the politicians.

Do you want to spend $125,000 to become a truck driver? Every 16 year old, before they became video game zombies learned to drive. You can teach anyone to be a truck driver in 3 weeks.OldeSkool Thanks this.

I agree. While everyone thinks they’re doing something no other person could possibly ever do, it’s a lie. I run Super-B and back up all day long but the reality is it’s easier going forward pulling multiple trailers than just one long one and you really rarely need to back up with Super-B’s. -
Why?
Because drivers are not considered professionals, drivers are a commodity, nothing more.
Until this changes, it will be a job.
AND the change has to also include self-policing, which doesn't happen in this industry.jdchet, TurkeyCreekJackJohnson, GreenPete359 and 1 other person Thank this.
