I hated that policy. My first winter I got stuck in WV during the blizzard of ‘96. Only parking left was a small fuel stop with a motel across the street. I told them I will have to idle because temps were around 0. “No you can’t idle it’s too costly”.
Told them ok I’ll get a motel room “we won’t pay for a motel”. I got a room anyways with my own money. “You need to stay in the truck!!” they replied. I didn’t even give those clowns an answer.

The corporate brainwashing from those orange clowns in Green Bay is unreal. I don’t know about now, but back then they had what was called “make it your business” meetings. My main terminal was in Akron OH, the dispatcher I had there was a total moron.

Need to get home at a certain date? “The system will decide when to get you home”.

The meetings were basically the most mind numbing corporate brainwashing garbage I’d ever seen to this day. “There is no such thing as long distance freight”. These days I mainy run long distance freight and prefer it.

“If fuek is gelled up place hot charcoal under the tank”… so guess I’m just going to break out a charcoal grill when it’s -20 out and blowing 40mph winds because the Pumpkin head clowns in Green Bay are too cheap to let drivers stay warm?
    On and on.

oh and don’t EVER say “terminal”… it’s an “operating center”!!.

when it came time for my paid vacation, I got a”confirmation letter” guaranteeing the time off and instructions to contact dispatch if a problem arises. When the time came I was up in Canada, and was dispatched on a load out of Canada crossing into upstate ny…. I figured they would have me cross into Buffalo, relay the trailer at the drop yard there and go home….WRONG.
Instead I was to cross over at 1,000 islands and run straight to Atlanta…. Dispatch claimed that they couldn’t get through to the “planners”, so I would have to get home later when their “system” decided.

vacation finally came 2 weeks later. While I was off I lined up another driving job and put my 2 week notice in.

my last load out of the house before finally getting routed to the Akron clown show to turn my truck in was a deadhead to Philly with 3 stops in Canada. I couldn’t even use the pre clearance… each stop had its own customs broker. And they were each on its own day 10 miles apart. Basically it meant crossing into fort Erie, waking each broker out of bed and finally getting cleared.
Canada Customs officer: “did you piss somebody off at your company?”
Me: “I gave them my resignation notice”.
    Customs cop: “ouch”.

I fought with dispatch on that load saying I need to get into Akron asap. “no wonder you have so much turnover!!”

Orange goons:”what makes you think we have turnover?”

basically the modus operandi at Schneider is “Drivers are stupid. Make policies as vaguely described at possible so you can abuse drivers easier”.

2 years after leaving tha orange hellhole I kept getting phone calls from their “recruiters”(oh excuse me, “professional interviewers” *roll eyes*)… “drive or great orange trucks hauling our great multi stop short haul freight and experience or great 3 weeks out 1 day off hometime”.

I told them I would rather decapitate myself with a full plastic butter knife.
“Sir you shouldn’t burn your bridges”.
    My reply?
“Sir when a pos company like yours screws me over I blow that #### up”. I very loudly and profanely told them to stop with the calls.

To this day my hatred for the Bloated Orange Giant hasn’t abated a bit. Schneider can kick rocks.

Fleets get so large they cannot manage the business, so they create more positions when what they need is workers
Hiring pencil pushers won’t improve fleet maintenance,, they will create the 9 steps to getting truck repairs put on the back burner

I had been out of trucking for 3 1/2 years and they gave me a chance to get back in as an experienced driver if I passed the road test. I did. So it wasn’t all bad.

they mass hire. have somewhat low standards. get you hired relatively quickly. some of theur routes and schedules seem above average but slightly lower pay. and the equipment is pretty decent and training top training u wont get that kind of training in smaller rag tag companies.

but there has to be some kind of kickback the ceos are getting from the relationship with the sleep apnia clinics. kind of like a scheme.

they get alot of govt funding which enables them to underbid and win alot of customers. which starves outsider rag tag companies. whom drivers then naturally need to go to companies like schneider.

they are lower tier but way above the bottom rag tier. the 50 or less employee contractors of post office amazon fedex. whom dont need to pay medical benefits because of affordable care act makes 50 or less employee companies able to circumvent it. then employees dont make enough to buy their own. because of the affordable care act. then these companies typically lack training or doing general things employers are suppost to do. abd more likely to do things like accounting fraud. or hand ur personal info wrongly. or misclassify you as 1099 etc.

also other entities good jobs in trucking dont do job creation. soo the mass surplus of drivers get swallowed by companies like schneider.

my mom was a nurse. my aunt a nurse. my aunts husband a doctor. and i got a 2 year degree in pharmacy that i never used i eventually became a trucker.

but it just takes common sense. cpap machine alters ur breathing. to have healthy breathing u need to let ur body breath natural. and so it disrupts ur body and more likely a scheme to getu hooked onto it. in my opinion u shouldnt need one for vast majority of people. and so schneider terminal managed to get about everyone on it. there was a clear scheme occuring. ive been with alot of trucking companies and what i saw at schneider was very abnormal. i know swift does it. maybe some of other trucking companies with mirror practices. but not the full scope of trucking. the rag tag companies. the ltl. the specialized ones etc.

but regardless. i readthe regulations and laws and schneider isnt doing it proper. which enabled them pull off this seemingly scheme on surface value it looks like a scheme.

cpap isnt the only way health system cons the public. knee surgeries for example they make ur knee worse. doctors prescribe drugs not need often. supplements generally not good for u as much as real food. etc. best way to be healthy is generally avoid hospitals. unlessu broke bones or need glasses or maybe skin cancer. some good things but alot of bad also in healthcare.

    Well, your opinion is yours.
Me? Also studied for pharmacy for two years (which has nothing to do with nothing in this discussion). Dad is a doctor of 60 years and a CPAP user for 20+ years. He has always been of average weight. And being overweight is NOT the sole cause of OSA. Mine is part hereditary, and has improved (but still present) after losing some weight. No matter how I spin it, CPAP likely saved my life as I had a very severe case of OSA.

As far as opining that companies use this as a cash cow, you’re not completely wrong. I called Crete on it when I went to work there in 2012. Long story short, I told them they could accept my five year record of usage or I’ll simply seek employment elsewhere. They relented and I went to work there.

So whatever your feelings about sleep studies and CPAP usage, the science is real. How some companies use it is certainly up for debate and discussion. But to dismiss it completely out of hand is wrong. It is not psychological. There are physical attributes involved. And I’m living proof.

Let me add that my first sleep study was done when I first hired on with Schneider in October, 2007. It was done at a lab in Houston. I have had one study since then, performed in a sleep lab near my home, on my dime, about seven years ago. The latter definitely showed improvement from my original study.

I don’t know who Schneider uses now. Perhaps the process has changed, so I can only speak to how things transpired 18 years ago.
