Going down a one lane back road yesterday morning and there were a couple of teenagers/young adults and a beat up Honda Civic that were behind me. I'm going 50 mph and apparently it was too slow for them even in the rain. The car was flashing its lights and the driver was sticking his hand out of the window from frustration, but he did not want to overtake me because of all of the cars coming the opposite direction. Finally when it looked like the other side was clear, he gunned going into a curve and the car ended up spinning out of control and flipped right over into a deep ditch multiple times. It looked really bad, but there was no way for me to pull over and see, so I just called it in and kept it moving

This younger generation these days I swear.

I'm sorry to hear about that, it crosses every drivers mind, not if, but when. Sounds to me like it may have been a medical emergency, or something really important, like a new phone unveiling at the mall, but you did right, if they didn't touch you, sucks to be them, and I'd have done the same thing. I do agree, this younger generation,,

    I've had that happen twice.

First time was on TN76 between TN100 and i40. 2am in February. Light freezing rain. Just left the old Kellogg plant in Rossville and headed east. Slow rolling up TN76 and a car comes up behind me, decides I'm going too slow.. gets out to pass, gets alongside me, hits the gas to finish his pass, fishtails. Bumps his nose against my drive fuel tank, rips off my bottom step. Bounces off me. I hit the brakes, he pulls a perfect arc in front of me and slides off the right shoulder. The road is a raised roadway with sharp dropouts into the woods. As his nose slips over the edge. The frame hits the shoulder and sprays mud grass and rocks all over the place. Coats my windshield and front of the cab in mud and grass. Then he finishes rolling off the shoulder and ends up on his side in the trees. I stop in the roadway 4 ways on, call 911 and help the guy out of his his car. Cop shows up, and we both explain to him what's happened. He tries tge road with his cruiser and slides all over. No tickets issued. Chalked up to just weather related incident.

Second time I'm in FL on i10. Forget the mm. Tropical storm moving through, raining like heck. White pickup is in left lane overtaking higher speed than he should have been going, hits water and hydroplanes off left shoulder. Gets into the grass and tries to correct back to right. Begins drift right, hits the pavement with steering fully cranked right. Tries to correct but momentum carries him across both lanes in a 2 wheel slide in front of me. I brake hard. He gets across both lanes, hits the shoulder and completes his rollover. Rolled over 3 times and ended up wheels down against the tree line. I stop close as I can to him, call 911 and check on him. He was buckled in, no injuries but the huge TV he had in the rear seat of his king cab was toast...lol. cops showed up, no tickets issued, just a warning to him to drive slower in bad weather...lol

There's been others but these 2 are the stand outs in my memory.

    You didn't stop?

    Did someone?

Did you call the cops and tell them what happened?

It isn't the younger generation by the way.

The year was about 1990, US 219S in PA, 10" of freshly-fallen snow, I'm heavy (about 76k), road is 4-lane, divided. I'm slow going uphill with my 320 hp Cummins, but could manage about 45-50 downhill and still feel safe doing so. Going up the hill, no plow has yet removed any snow, some jack-burro in a red Mazda RX-7 keeps flashing his lights, even though there IS a lane to his left (it's just unplowed). I'm just making reasonable time, no chance in heck I'm gonna pull over on a steep hill just because Chad wants to pass.

I crest the hill and start going down, holding in 8th gear so that I don't go over 45-50 mph. Well, Chad decides to try and pass me. I see him in my mirror, fighting to keep his lightweight sportscar straight while doing about 55 mph on 10" of untouched snow. "This will be interesting", I thought to myself as I take a sip of coffee from my mug. Chad pulls up next to me, blows his horn, and I can see through his sunroof that he's giving me "the bird". Then he guns it, the bow-shock from the air off the front of my cabover makes his rear-end slide out, he over-corrects, I slowly drift to the right while he does 3 complete spins (an 1080° spin!) and ends up in the median, luckily still topside-up. I chuckled, and continued on my way....

Surprised I never saw that happen. Don't know how many times people would not pass when it was safe but wait till a hill or curve was coming up to make a move. Had one close call. Dude in a ford ranger must have cleared my front bumper by the thickness of a hair.
