They made this announcement back when AB5 first passed, then apparently put it on hold while the case worked its way through the courts. I didn't see any recent announcement either. Maybe they only contacted California residents.

Pretty much, since they were non moving it was literally cheaper to just shut up and pay then to contest them. I HATE cali. Every time i go there stupid happens. Last time i went i had literally just got my lonestar and this was its first load. Was going up that steep hill and was in the roght lane doing about 20. Random lady throws a brick at my truck. Broke my hood trim and punched a big ### dent into my air can.

Cali is just not worth it.

I remember it back three years ago - in the LS online news/email etc. Have not heard anything since. They usually blast it company wide - thus, my disregard for the original post and it's link to (whoever that supplement selling guy's) "Content"

Too bad those who made the poor choice to enter a lease purchase with their carrier, along with those who don’t know the difference of leasing a truck from a carrier and leasing your truck to carrier, had the loudest voice and wanted the government to save them when AB5 passed. Meanwhile other industries raced to make sure they got an exemption.

Old news. This guy is a drama queen. Landstar let us know over 3 years ago. I had to sign a new contract mid term in 2022 after the Supreme Court refused to hear the appeal. Only affects CA residents. Landstar bcos living in California can't haul loads originating in Ca. If you live out of state you can come in to pick up loads. California can't tell a resident what they can do outside of the state so some drivers leave their trucks in Reno Las Vegas or Phoenix. I took my truck to Chicago. There are still Landstar loads interstate and intrastate in California.

Im confused. Why do folks hate the AB-5 law? Proper classification has been needed for quite sometime. Now you can't hire "company drivers" on a 1099. I thought that was a good thing. Now I'm confused by Landstar's move because you have to have your own truck to even work for them, right? Don't most of their drivers have their numbers but contract to haul their freight?

Right so basically the lease purchase driver and the company drivers on 1099 is dead in California. It'll be a matter of time before that becomes federal.
