Hopefully these anti-idling laws and high fuel prices will tip the scale for the cost/benefit ratio for all truck companies out there to install APUs.
I read an article the other day talking about air conditioning and its impact on civilization in the past century. The idea was floated that it has made us (humans) weaker, turned us into blithering wussies when we don't have it and is hurting the planet.
You can reacquire your tolerance to heat and sleep comfortably in it with a little practice. It really only takes about one day of pure suffering and after that it doesn't seem so bad. Set a goal for yourself of 0% idling percentage with your company for 3 months. You'll be helping your planet. I also recommend strapping a potted container to the catwalk along with a trellis on the back of the sleeper and plant some climbing vines which can survive in extreme environments. Your truck will be a rolling greenhouse gas negative machine. It will be like it doesn't even exist.
CA idling law??? Tickets? Enforcement??

Your sarcasm is showing. And it's AWESOME!!! -

I really feel sorry for you. -
Many of the APU's I have walked next to rattle like Hell. And they expel some really smelly exhaust. Many are not Californy spec.

I also load and unload my truck with a huge 3 cylinder PTO air compressor. The truck has to be run at about 1000rpm when the PTO is engaged for it to work efficiently. Thats "idling"...but there is an exception to the carb nonsense for PTO. (can i just leave the pto running all night and claim i need it for something? hahahahahahaha).
And it gets way too hot in a sleeper to survive. It gets up to around 150 degrees in there.....so you are clearly a moron.

Has anyone else ever run out of hours in Indio or the vicinity of that desert area? Yeah, I idle! It could be over 100 degrees outside and 10 degrees hotter in the truck with all of the windows open. Not worried about enforcement though.
I had to idle at night, because the low was in the mid 90's. For some of you sceptics, yes, I can survive at night in a hot truck without idling. I will just lose sleep. Who can fall unconscious and sleep well in the heat anyway?roaddawg92 Thanks this. -
Better watch out, someone will call you a cry baby.JimDriv3r Thanks this. -

I'm sick and tired of this "Kill a trucker, save a tree" mentality. Our trucks are our LIVING environments. Our bunks serve as our bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, etc. Why isn't OSHA involved in this? Most of the newer trucks are "clean idle", and I think that more attention should be paid to BP oil, or other corporations that are destroying the environment. We truckers aren't polluting the air, but the hot air that is coming out of these "elected officials" is what's causing "global warming".
I don't have an APU in my truck, but I have an Espar bunk heater. It doesn't work for crap. This past Feb, March, I would awaken so cold I could see my breath, and my teeth would be chattering as I would start the truck up again to get warm. Trying to sleep comfortably now that's it's summer is impossible without idling the truck to run the A/C. I ran late on a couple of deliveries because I slept so poorly the night before because of constantly waking up to start up the truck for a few minutes.
Why aren't all of the truckers raising a bigger stink about this?? Come ON, gang, we need the "I'm mad as hell and I ain't gonna take it no more" attitude! All of the people
that are pulling our strings like we're stupid puppets all go home to their air conditioned home, and their cozy warm fireplaces, while we're out delivering every single thing that they use, consume, wear, etc. And we cannot allow "them" to treat us like animals!roaddawg92 Thanks this.
