For the BEST CDL training offered by ANY company by far!!! Ask any reputable trucking company if they would hire a driver trained by Stevens. (they are the most respected training company in the country.) I joined this forum about a year and a half ago when I went on the road with my husband. During the following months I learned more and more about trucking and we decided that the next step was for me to get my CDL. I have now completed 2 weeks of intense training and will take my skills test tomorrow morning. I feel that I have received the best possible training by highly skilled instructors and will be able to pass my skills test with no problem whatsoever, pretty impressive for someone who had never been behind the wheel of a big truck 12 days ago!! Wish me luck and I'll report back in a couple of days.

This post right here says it all......let us know how you did. -
Well, the 3rd try was the charm.
The first try I was almost finished with the driving test and caught a curb. Tried again the next day and over-compensated catching the curb on the other side.
Went in for my last attempt on Thursday and passed the test!!!! I will be leaving the yard with my trainer either Monday (9/13) or Tuesday (9/14). Looking forward to getting back on the road, being in one place for 3 weeks is making me climb the walls, LOL.

I dont understand something. How come Stevens is charging for loans but yet they also get government money for each person brought into the school??
-
So what if they are. The company is giving you basically free training. Who cares about the back end of the crap. I dont have the 3 grand to goto school. Theses companies really help people to have a good job, and to support you, and the family!venne Thanks this.

How is paying $6,000 dollars considered free training? There's plenty of companies that charge nothing for training and I don't know too many families that couldn't use $6,000 bucks.

I think there's some misunderstanding here.
Stevens provides the training. If you hire on and stay for whatever the length of time is (I don't remember), then you owe nothing. They don't deduct anything from your pay, you don't get paid lower than someone coming to Stevens with a CDL already.
It's free.
If you leave Stevens for ANY reason before that commitment is up, you owe them the money.
Think of it as an expensive CDL school in that case.
if you went to Roadmaster, Western or any other school, it would cost you between $3.500 and $7,000. So Stevens is not out of line.
The money they are paid by the government is for training you to drive. Not to get a CDL. They receive nothing for your CDL training.
If you don't complete the drive training (O-1, O-2, Grad), they get nothing.
So if you can't afford to go to a private school or community college to get your CDL, company schools provide the training free, so long as you complete your commitment to them.
Personally, I always recommend a private school or community college. I think you'll find most drivers on this board agree. -
Good Evening All,
A family member of mine will be going to Stevens for training soon and I'd just like to hear from current drivers on their experience. I've gone through half of these posting and see a somewhat mixed response. I appreciate anyone willing to offer their experience. -
