also when in california how does it configure remaining time to destination?
195 miles in 3 hours and ten minutes?
when the speed limit for trucks is 55?

    Mark Kling Thanks this.

Yeah i know right? i guess you can hit the eta + to extend the arrival time but i dont understand how it works exactly. i dont know why the user should have to extend the ETA to a point. i mean if im going 1200 miles and the car speed is 75 the gps will say 16 hours. i guess i can hit the eta + and bump it up to the real time of truck speed at 55 which would be 22 hours. seems a little old school for a high priced piece of technology like a gps. maybe i just do not understand the eta thing and how it works exactly. seems like a useless feature to me but like i said i don't understand it completely and maybe if i did id like it.

Mark what kind of parameters can you set on the 700? I drive a fuel tanker and have a garmin 465T and the other night it tried sending me into a tunnel. What kind of avoidances can be programmed into your device?

:biggrin_25510:Purchased a brand new, in the box, TND 700 Aug 28th from a seller on Ebay. Happily took delivery a few days later. Kind of a love hate thing. A few minor "bumps" that I posted here, but all in all not a bad unit. Did the update on the 29th of Sept & was enjoying the new look. On the 5th of this month I had the unit up & running & went in to sign paperwork. Upon getting in the truck I noticed my TND was no longer turned on. I pushed the power button.....nothing. I assumed the plug had wiggled loose & run down the battery. Let it charge for a couple of minutes & hit power
again.....nothing. The little red light on the unit was on & so was the power plug. Called RMN support, talked to Roger. After several tries he ruled the unit deceased. Told me he was emailing a return label & asked if I had a receipt. I told him I purchased the unit new on Ebay & could print the payment sheet & the item listing including my info from PayPal. He said to include that with the return unit & they would do a repair or exchange. After 2 days I called Roger, got a guy named Samuel on the phone who said he could help. After reviewing the info he indicated unless I could show a receipt from an "authorized" reseller that I became the owner of a very expensive paper-weight......RMN wouldn't do a thing to warranty it.....new or not. Received a voice mail from Roger a little later stating that it was RMN's error I hadn't received my return label & it was on the way. I also received 2 emails, one for the return instructions & another for the label. What gives here? s RMN going to stand behind the unit or what? Thanks

Do to the fact that E-bay in itself is not an authorized dealer for Rand McNally, and since proof of the "seller" cannot be verified that the TND you are getting is a true and legal sale, In other words - not stolen.

Rand will honor the warranty's if from an authorized dealer, it becomes gray area from any other source.

Do units get stolen - yes,,, two units complete with brackets was stolen out of one of my testers truck. When the caught the person he had already sold the units..

I do have the serial numbers.

SO again - if you bought an item off E-Bay and another companies name is on the item, would they honor a 3rd party sale? Probably not.

If you bought off E-Bay and an authorized dealer has a "store" on E-Bay, then the warrenty would be honored. Rand list authorized dealers on their website.

    Thanks,
    Mark

You also might want to visit what the seller offers for a unit that fails within a short time.. most will offer to replace it.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Before a big following after this post -- ETA is based upon road segment speed. It pulls all the speeds from the map database and averages them.

I know you cannot do 65 and you are governed at 62 or 60 or 55... Sorry, but I have also brought this up.

If your eta is too short, then increase the ETA, if your ETA is too long then shorten the ETA..

    Thanks,
    mark

averages the truck speed or car speed?

now if we can get it to give accurate times of actual driving time
the last 125 miles took 4 hours, gotta to love the greater LA metro area!
