Comparing a truck driver to a pilot who is properly compensated is a joke.
Pilot is paid when waiting for the plane to leave or it is being worked on.
Pilot is not expected to be up all day and wait for the repair to be done and then fly.
It is basically the difference between a responsible company, such as the airlines, and the trucking companies.
Also, you are comparing a union pilot to a regular employee with no rights or protection.

I work for them and got a good DM .I avg 5700 miles in a 10 day trip .I have had no problems with them as for swift Knight owns 10% of swift they also own 51% of stevens and western express outright they are getting away from that small big company feel and I fear a Merge with conway is on the way
-
Hey " BIG DON ",you still working for Dats ?
-
Nope. I'm working a "retired" gig. Since 2007. And I LOVE IT!

Actually, for the most part, I enjoyed my time with DATS. But that last year, I seemed to be managing to hurt myself every time I turned around. Finally decided it was time to get the hell out of the business.
Did you work for them? -
The pilot who crashed his jet into a house in upstate New York was making around 30k a year with no bennies.
The INT and transcont pilots make good money and retire at 60 but a pilot who is working for a regional outfit contracted to the larger carriers make less then a truck driver in many cases and live in bunk houses like drivers used to before they stuck sleepers on trucks. -
What was rude about it? He offered 2 weeks notice and they said it was not needed and got him routed to the terminal.
He is probably making 5-7 cent per mile more then they pay a new hire so why wait? Thats also why his miles went down. Pay goes up miles go down. Happened to me at USX.
We seem to have a bunch of Socialist on here who think everything in life should be fair and that how a company profit and spends their money should be regulated .
The driver did not like what he was told and left. But DNA thinks it was rude because why? they did not offer a party and omlette bar on the way out? -
Sounds like Knight and Heartland work under the same operating idea.
Which makes since because they are 2 of the most profitable truck load carriers.
They both focus on short to med haul and high rate per mile (for a large company).
They are both debt free and pay for everything up front, so the truck sitting does not hurt anything. Since it is paid for and the driver only gets paid for the truck moving.JimDriv3r Thanks this. -
i will agree to a point, BUT regardless of who is being taken to court, the lawyers can subpoena all the JFK assassination documents, all the FBI paperwork on Elvis and whoever else, they want, but the company can settle out of court, and the 'evidence' they want will never get into public record. Hence that is why companies settle out of court. The lawyers will get together and talk about a dollar amount all parties are happy with......all the while keeping the data showing the truck was in motion 3 hrs after the driver showed in his log book he was off duty. The company will know this....the plaintiffs lawyers wont....not till there is 'discovery', but by that time, there will probably have already been 2-3 offers to settle.
I seldom ever give out reports on chicken houses. Open or closed. If you're running illegal, thats your own fault. Dont run illegal, and you dont have to 'worry' about scales being open or not. -
Hey don't tell me about how there was no pity party on the way out. Rizen Phoenix was just simply pointing out how he gave six years of hard work and dedication to the company only to be shown how relieved they were that he was leaving. He'll see in about a week how much of a blessing it was to get out of that place.
Obviously this idiot CEO wannabe realizes that the 300 drivers that filter through the Tulare terminals roster on a monthly basis have little use for him either.
Hey I'm from the school of thought that you wake up in the morning, work your tail off all day long, put it away wet, and reap the benefits of your job. I was lucky to see Knight at the tail end of that era but the last few moments I wasted with them was just about enough. -
Drivers ! Excuse me but thats the business model ! SOP ! If a driver tenders his 2 weeks he immediately becomes a security risk ( yep, possible revenge ) so it's felt that it's better to terminate him ASAP.
Not to worry though....CSA 2010 will stop the turnover especially when the economy swings back up.
As far as the drivers tenure and record at Knight? Ha! That driver was nothing more than a tool in a box of many and now he's broken. Toss him out and get another.
