I never encountered it when I was running up there in the 70's. That doesn't mean it didn't exist but I never dealt with it personally.

I have no problem laughing at myself. I even make jokes about myself and will make fun of stupid stuff I do. Yes, I've poked a little fun at the company I have chosen to work with.
But there's a huge difference between having a little bit of good natured fun and spewing caustic vitriole day after day as some members of this forum do with even the slightest excuse. There's a difference between teasing and calling someone a POS for no other reason than what's written on that wagon.
Why is it not okay to call someone a racial epithet but it is okay to say hurtful things because of someone's employer? Why is it not okay to treat someone as less of a person because they worship differently than you but it is okay to treat 17,000 people like crap because of who signs their checks? For me, it just gets tiresome after a while when certain people go out of their way to say something nasty about your team mates. It's reminiscent of those elementary school bullies who band together and pick on the smaller kids because it makes them feel powerful to jump on someone else's bandwagon. In reality, these bandwagon jumpers are showing how weak, ignorant and unoriginal they really are. And they are cutting themselves off from other people who might be able to bail their arses out some day.
I actually have had drivers talk smack at me on the radio because I refused to take one kind of risk or other. Then, ten miles or so down the road, here's that same driver in a pickle trying to get me to stop and help.
Or the guy at the liar's counter in the truck stop yapping on about how many idiots drive for X Company, then being on the CB asking for a jump start for his reefer and does anyone have a set of cables he can borrow? I will invariably remind this guy what he said inside while his life was going hunky-dory and inform him yes, I do happen to have a set of cables, but what's it worth to him for use of them? How much is that load of meat worth? Is it worth admitting that he's the real dummy for not investing in cables and he's hauling a reefer?
And the other guy who was on the radio saying terrible things because here comes a Swift with a woman behind the wheel and she should be home cooking and making babies, everybody watch out, she's got that thing in reverse... and not ten minutes later, pull his own trailer over someone's hood...and hearing "oh, sorry that happened to you, he must have parked too far forward or you would have made tht turn..."
Or hearing about the same rolled truck three times because someone hit black ice but only once about a hazmat tanker hauler who made a conscious and deliberate decision to do something not only illegal, but stupid as heck and then blame the stationary rolled truck in an offhand way. Well, if the rolled Swift wasn't there.... but we all know had it been anyone like JoeBob's Truckin' on its side instead, we would never have heard a peep about it.
How many times does it take for my mistakes to be magnified, analyzed and then dismissed as stupidity while the exact same mistake is committed by someone with a "good" company and they get a pass on it, even sympathy from their fellow drivers...before it finally gets to me how much bullying really goes on, even on these very forums?
I don't care who you are or what your position is within a community. There's only so much you can take. When a moderator justifies their own poor judgment by saying something like "well, I can laugh at myself" and then goes on to complete an unnecessary insult however mild it might be and think it's okay because of the group of people being insulted, it does not reflect well on the community as a whole.
When people are told to avoid threads where this behavior occurs, it would mean quitting the forum altogether because it is so pervasive. No, I'm not planning on going anywhere. I am strong enough to stand up to the bullies and show them their errors regardless of their perceived position.
Granted, this thread was started and titled to invite ridicule of a specific company and I did not have to visit it. But it is an open forum and I am allowed to make my opinion known, just like everyone else, whether that opinion is popular or not and regardless of the words on the equipment I haul.
I have refrained from direct bow shots on people who act like this. I could be asking questions like, "So, why, exactly, are you an EX-trucker?" Or, "Were you fired by Swift or did you just quit?" Or, "How does it really feel to be rejected by a so-called Bottom Feeder company?" Or, "What's the real reason you couldn't remain employed by a company that hires any warm body with a pulse?" But I don't ask questions like that because I know they are hurtful.
I do get strong with my presentation at times, but usually when it is someone with a chronic case of hatefulness or when someone says something so far over the top that it needs to be immediately addressed and nipped in the bud. Luckily, there are only a very few hateful people and even fewer who blast onto the forum spewing insults.HEAVY DUDE, canuck in da truck, AXE and 8 others Thank this. -

This is from the Colorado DOT web site:

CHAIN LAW LEVEL 2 :

Busses must chain two drive wheels to comply.
Level two may be implemented any time there is snow covering the entire portion of the traveled pavement on an ascending grade or when driving conditions dictate that this level is necessary to protect safety or minimize road closures.
That is it....Colorados chain requirements!
So....Where is it? I followed the link that you provided and read the entire thing and guess what?
There is no steer tire chain requirement in Colorado or California...End of story!

otherhalftw, Rerun8963, FriedTater and 1 other person Thank this. -
why does it have to be a requirement for somebody to chain his steer ?
maybe the guy was a 30 yr vet of the oil patch where it is common to chain one steer tire as well as the drives
what i am getting at is---why make fun of somebody when you arnt sure yourself(as in the o/p)
i am sure people make fun of me--cause i aint touching those chains--once they are on the truck and not dragging--thats where they will stay---i sure aint in that much of a hurry that i cant wait for the road to improve -

The steer requirement is still in the Colorado Revised Statutes - i.e., the law, and CSP at times will require traction devices on your steers. A friend of mine was required to chain-up going over Wolf Creek last winter - CSP wouldn't let him proceed until he'd put some cables on the steers.

Looks that way.... -
Just can't let it go can you? -
