I do short hauls part time and like to run hard when I do them.
I sometimes want to run over hours, as I can finish my run in 16 hours vs. 26 hours with a 10 hour break that I cannot get to sleep in, and get real sleep at home. I am wondering if it is better to log the hours I am over or not fill out the logbook during the time I am on the road and over hours. It would seem to be better to keep my logbook up to date, and show that I am over hours, as that would be about 3 points I think, than not have my logbook current.
What do you guys think?
Over hours question...

Let's see...you're asking whether deliberately breaking regulation and telling the bears you're doing it or deliberately breaking regulation and not telling them is better. That sound about right?
Change it up a bit:
You walk into a bank and you plan to strongarm rob it. You are armed with a pistol. You plan to draw the weapon and put it into someone's face while you demand money. You also have a ski mask in your pocket. Are you going to wear it or not? If not, are you going to smile and wave at the video camera? Just a thought.
My advice? Suck it up and take some blankets with you. It can get cold in a truck this time of year. -
I know you don't want to here this but you should run it legal. WITH CSA 2010 AND THE NEW PROPOSED HOURS OF SERVICE its even more important. They are going to start issuing fines of $2,700 for running over on your hours.

If you are doing short hauls..i guess you would have multiple stops. You could legally log 14hrs on duty.
If you are doing short hauls with little or no stopping...the 11hrs is what you can drive/ log.
but i assume you already know this...and i assume you already know the answer to your question...but i will answer your question with a question:
Do you like your Freedom?..or is Prison something you always wanted to try?
If ANYTHING..and i mean ANYTHING happens and causes injury/death to others while you are driving over your legal federal hours of service...you are going to be charged with crime(s) ranging from manslaughter to murder!!
I could spend the next 2hrs.trying to prove my point and show you all thr statistics of Drivers who are doing time in prison..or the lawsuits/judgements that juries have awarded accident victims in trials against drivers and trucking companies,but,...i would just encourage you to do a little research on the subject..
there are now attorney's and companies just waiting to sue truck drivers and or their companies for BIG $$$$..there are billboards in most major cities advertising such..
Go to www.youtube.com and type in "trucking accidents" there are a half dozen of the sites are advertizments from attorneys wanting to sue Truck Drivers....
Your family will be better off financially if you just quit and stay home, because a good attorney with a soft hearted jury will take EVERYTHING you and your wife/family have..and put a judgement on your credit that will prvent you from ANYTHING you EVER will have.
Son.This Ain't no joke out here no more..Run legal.Run Safe....or stay HOME.
14hrs onduty..and 11 straight hours of Driving is more than enough.(Stop.Take a rest break)
My opinon(and federal law)..but do what you want.Jaegur Thanks this. -
?? An admission of running illegal, along with a picture and description of your truck, what you haul, and the route you run. I *think* I would do a little editing.
-
oh-ok..i get it.Its a joke.
Sorry,should have realized sooner(new here. -
Move to California where you can do 16 legally
-
Up to $11,000 fine for log violations.
-
My bad....
I should have posted this as a theoretical question, as I would not do anything that would be illegal while driving a CMV....
I have a spotless driving record and no incidents of any kind and intend to keep it that way....but I was curious as to what the answer to my question was. -
What kind of log book infraction would an $11,000 fine be for?
Anyone know what actual fines are being paid for specific logbook violations?
I know that not having the prior 7 days logs is a $165 fine in SD. I was not fined for that, but had a conversation with a LEO when he was writing out a Warning ticket for me on my first day of driving.
