Your bonus is calculated on the following factors.
1. Idle less than 25%.
2. Out of Route less than 10%, although it decreases the longer you are there.
3. No DOT infractions or citations.
4. 100% on time delivery (no late deliveries due to things inside driver control).
I think the bonus is like .02 / mile for each quarter to start, and goes up as you are there longer. So you can idle but may be sacrificing what ever that would amount to for you. In the four months I was on the road for SNI, my total idle time was around 15%, although I probably had a bonus in that I was driving during fall and early winter, so heat/ ac was not a huge thing for me. With all of that said, if you have sleep apnea your idle time increases to 40%, and if it is below (I think) 10 degrees you can idle all night and have that day deducted from the calculations.
Hope that helps.

Question was.............
what if you idle anyway ??
answer
You won't be a pumpkin very long !!!one37 Thanks this. -
Any company that penalizes you for such minor infractions as sleeping well and not purchasing APU's is not a company that deserves your time. But of course the "you have to start somewhere" comes into play to keep Schneider alive.
It's funny how every truck you see being offered for sale by Schneider Finance has an APU installed. It makes great business sense but so does forcing a driver to sleep in the heat/cold.123456, OPUS 7, The Challenger and 2 others Thank this. -
that idle time--that would really depend on your area--its easier to put up with cold weather than hot--for me anyways--when it is over 100 in the bunk that truck is going to be idling

Apu's are awesome! Had one on my werner truck, shut truck off have my thermastat set heat comes on or my air. I can have electrical stuff plugged in. or if the batteries are weak the apu will come on and keep them charged. Cab was always warm when i got in it in the winter.

It is an auxilary engine that is suppose to save fuel and reduce polution.
It runs the heat or A/C and electricals of the truck when the power plant is shut down. They cost between $7,000.00 and $15,000.00 a truck to buy and install, depending on brand and who you ask. -
Many of the units (I think 402xx and newer) have Webasto bunk heaters which will keep you warm at night without idling. I was only a road driver for 8 months with them and never had a bunk heater or an APU but I know I got a couple of bonuses.

APUs have a small diesel engine and due to that still cannot idle longer that the trucks engine can due to State idle laws from what I have been told. Could be wrong but if that was the case I don't why you would spend the money on one. Schneider trucks have the Webasto heaters in the them and work great. They are suppost to be looking into a way to cool the sleeper aswell. i know anything above 80* and mines going to be running. Like stated a good nights sleep will make you far more money than a loss in some small bonus. I work for Schneider and have not heard of anyone getting canned by going over the 25% rule just no bonus for them. Also in the fourth and first quarter they go by the 25% rule I think in the 2nd 3rd quarter the % goes up alittle due to the high temps and no other cooling option. With the Webasto heater you should not have to idle to stay warm and when its below 10* they don't want you to shut them off so they just take that day off your average. I don't think is a bad deal but have not been here very long so I guess I shall see.
one37 Thanks this.
