No it's a black Kenworth. First thing in the morning I am calling driver services. I would have never expected to be treated this way as he has been extremely nice up until now.

This is the first major issue with this mentor except he never does a pre trip.

The rate it is going it will take me nine weeks to complete my 240 hours. I do not understand how this guy makes enough money to pay for the truck and fuel. The past ten days we have been getting 200 to 400 mile runs and then we sit waiting for another 200 to 400 mile run.

I will let you know what happens from here as soon as I can post again. Going to be a long road ahead to get my 240 hours in.:biggrin_25518:

'Nuff said. The guy's an idiot. Report his sorry ### ASAP! Not just because of what's going on with you, but because he shouldn't be operating a big truck at all. I think that most professional drivers do a pre-trip of a sort every time they approach their truck. But, there are too many things you can't see without putting on the gloves and looking for them.

get out!. Time to find a new mentor and report this driver. He done it once and got away with it. He going to keep doing it until the head office tell him to knock it off.

Get a hotel, call driver services, and raise some serious hell! And of that don't work, find a new outfit!! Although, I'm fairly sure that Swift will deal with the situation as soon as somebody responsible gets into the office. Doesn't matter who you work for, the weekend crew doesn't have the collective intelligence of a wadded up bit of tissue paper...and can't be trusted with any kind of decision.

My mentor didn't pretrip either but I thought that was my job as the student. I asked where the airtanks were so I could drain them he said don't worry about it because it was a brand new truck. I performed an air brake leak test and he just about came unglued. We ran several 1000 mile days in a row and I'd tell him we are lower on oil than yesterday until finally told him there is no oil registering on the dipstick. We put 3 gallons in to get it to the low mark. I asked if he wanted to get some more, nope he said bservice next week. He would drive right up to the customer the night before, no bathrooms, no shower, no coffee, warm food, nope eat a can of raviolis or beans cold if you're hungry. I remember once we parked in this huge parking lot. Woke up surrounded by cars and close to being trapped. Had to stand next to the trailer and pee hoping not to get caught by everyone going in to work at the building. There was a truckstop about an hour away but that would cost too much time in his thinking-- hand me another cold mcdonalds hamburger will ya....

I hope that the "pre trip" issue isn't ur biggest complaint. It is important to have a safe truck...and u will learn how to do it your way when u get ur truck....but there are many more things that are more important to learn than a pre trip. That 240 hrs will go by quick enough...get in the drive3rs seat and get it done. yep..the dude sounds like a thoughtless a-hole for expecting you to stay in the truck outside his crib without providing you with the option of staying elsewhere. That being said... if all was well to this point...then it might be better to just chalk this up to experience and be prepared the next time it looks like dude is going home for a few days. You are gonna find yourself in similar circumstance out on the road by yourself sometimes. Wait till u get stuck at a terminal...hmmm...Laredo...for a few days...no money in your pocket ande no food on the truck...lol...how about having to spend the nite at a reststop on the interstate...and only have 20 dollar b ills and no change for the vending machines....lol. My point is your being introduced to life on the road...it can be inconveniant at times and you will start to learn to be prepared for the uinexpected....there is no crying in trucking...lol.....just sayin'
