A quick recap for you.
Knight was once good.
Then they started viewing drivers as disposable dumpster babies.
Suddenly nobody is stupid enough to drive for them. Drivers quit at an alarming rate.
The solution, improve pay maybe fire all the crooks and thief's running the drivers away? HA HA HA
They open a training academy at a time when there are many GOOD drivers willing to go to work today.
Any questions?

I thought Squire was an excellent experience. I've been with Squire/Knight for almost 6 months and don't have any huge complaints. Feel free to PM me or reply to this thread if you have any questions about Squire and the transition to Knight and hopefully my experience will be helpful in making your decision.

Your right, no one is perfect. Whether you driving for 2mos or 20yrs someone is bound to mess up somewhere. It happens to all of us.

This is for anyone looking for answers about trucking companies to start with. I have recently graduated from a trucking school and have been googleling Truck Companys to start my new career with. I have a top five lists that I thought would be a good or even great company to go with. My top five were 1. Conway, 2. Roehl, 3.Squire, 4. TransAm, 5. USExpress. Conway doesn't hire many student drivers so I didn't really expect anything from them. Roehl hired me and set everything up and I was ready to take the job when Squire called me and hired me as well. I did some more research and found some things on the internet that didn't come true. I eventually to the job with Squire because of there training program. Well that was my first mistake and a big one at that. Let me tell you why.
First of all the recruiters will tell you anything to get you to the company and then you find out that most of the stuff they told you was a lie. I was first contacted by Mike from squire and he said he would take care of the app and get everything processed. Then later that same night I was contacted by a lady name Megan. She said that she got my app and was going to take care of things. I told her that I had already spoken to another person from squire. She said she would check into it. Two days later Mike called me back and told me everything went through and he was setting up my trip. Not even two hours later I get another phone call from Megan and she was trying to setup my trip too. I told her again that Mike and took care of everything. She got mad and said that she spoke to him and told him that she was taking care of me. I called Mike back can told him what happen and he got upset and calls the other girl crazy and slow. Mike did at the end take care of everything.
Now they sent me on a Greyhound for 24 hours and after that trip I will never take greyhound as long as I live. (Special not to all new truck drivers-pay for a plane ticket yourself if you have to.) Got to the hotel everything was great just like mike planned it.
Okay I got to my first day of orientation and that's where it got interesting. The first lady came in and took all our info and then sent the second lady in. The teachers name was Megan. She came it and said ask all the questions you want and have fun in class joke around to lighten the mood. Well everyone thought that was cool and the day began. We all started asking questions and have fun and stuff. Just before lunch this guy named Rafael came in and started sizing everyone up. He said I'm a great judge of character and can tell if youre good for the company or not in the first five minutes. He left and the day went on. Now there were tons and tons of questions. We all started to noticed that the teacher started to get annoyed and we all stop asking questions only the confusing question were asked from this point forward. Now we thought the teacher was getting mad because she couldn't answer any of our questions because she had only worked for the company at the time for 4 weeks and she was still learning everything herself. Every time she didn't no the answer she wrote the question down to get it answered. Now it's the end of the day about 4:45 and Megan said I have to go some paperwork for you guys. She comes back and tells me that Rafael wants to speak with me. I go and talk to him and he says that Squire uses their week long orientation as a hiring process. He said that I won't be hired because I ask too many question and they don't like that. I was floored at this point. I told him I have not problem complying with their SOP but he didn't care and gave me a greyhound bus ticket to go back home.
The last thing that really broke the camels back was when I went to Rafael and told him that I had a little problem getting home. I didn't have any cash on my and no money on my atm card. He told me that they can't give me money for my luggage to get back on greyhound. He said it was not his problem and that I have to figure it out for myself. That's when I thanked him and said I glad I didn't get hired with that company because they don't care about there employees. I did get home okay and takes to some friends that were able to help me out.
This is a true story and you can take it for what it is worth. I can't speak for Knights trucking but squire is a joke. Here are some of the things they wont tell you until you get there
1. No trucks have apu's or power inverters that are wired to the battery. And youre not aloud to get one either. The only one you can have is the inverter that plugs into the lighter.
2. You can't mount anything or alter the truck in any way or youre fired on the spot.
3. They tell you that your get .30 cents a mile and that is not true. You start at .27 cents a mile.
4. Now they tell you that you'll get 2800 to 3100 miles a week and that is not true either. The mile your get per week is about 2100 to 2300 mile a week.
5. Taking your truck home. That was an issue too. You have to have a spot already setup. You have to take a trailer home with you as well. You not allowed deadheading more then 50 miles.
6. They tell you that you'll be match with a non smoker or smoker depending what you ask for. That is not true they said they will do there best but don't have many non smoking trainers.
7. You have to pay for tolls and you'll be reimbursed in about a week or two.
8. They give you another DOT physical during the week.
9. The website said you get 24 hours of Skid Plate training and that is not the case either. The teacher didn't even know what that was till we explained it.
10. If you like to have a drink after your done work during your 10 hours don't because they don't allow it. You can have a drink before 12 hours of resuming work. They will do a swab test. It doesn't matter what you BAC was if the swab shows alcohol your fired as well.
This was just some of the things I learned about the company of the first day that I hope will help whom ever make a decision in the future about this company. Good luck everyone and drive safe.

Geeze,
That's hard to believe!!!!
I hope your next company works out better for you!!
Good Luck !!!!! -

Who said anything about being a "grizzled pro"?? I"m "grizzled" for sure, from getting OLDER probably...I simply suggested he read the posts again..,I WOULDN"T go there,at the end of the day,if he goes,if you do or are there,well.....DRIVE ON..
123456 Thanks this. -
You went to orientation with NO money????
-
So what does that matter? You didn't have any money to buy yourself one anyway
-
It's not uncommon because these recruiters who lost their jobs as used car salesmen and get hired by trucking companies just can't tell the truth OR the applicant thinks because they are going to orientation they have the job! They are broke as it is!
I'll say it again!
NEVER take a trucking job that's not close enough to your house that you can't afford to drive your own car or motorcycle to the yard!
NEVER take more baggage than you can afford to pay to ship home!
Have a credit card that has enough credit on it for a plane ticket or cost of a rental to get you home! If you prefer to ride that mangy dog sitting next to a smoker who stinks or someone who hasn't showered in the last 3 days since he got on then go for it!
But my best advice is to DRIVE yourself there! The company will pay to get you THERE but it's not guaranteed that you will get home! If they are going to pay for a bus ticket they will give you that amount if you drive or fly to their orientation. If they do NOT hand you a comm check when you walk in the door turn around and go home! I just hope you have enough cash to get back home! -
Yeah what he said!!!
I'm not a big knight fan but......
You have no money to get home but you are worried about alchol?? ROFLMFAO!
Besides a lot of companies have a no alchol policy while you have the truck!
It's their truck they are woirried about and this is actually a good policy as take a drink and then 10 hours later have an accident in a law suit crazy society when it comes to trucking and you'll understand!
Besides can you NOT go for a few weeks until you get home and have a drink? If not then you might not be trying to work in the right business! Or a problem you need to address.
If you don't like the no drinking policy go lease a truck and learn that way! Or buy one!
