My little "stump hauling" business has been around for 15 years. We have 60 trucks and I managed to acquire one of the ten brand new Peterbilts that were just purchased. Saying they went out of business tomorrow, that would be a minor inconvenience but who cares, I made 17k more in 2010 than I did at Knight in 2009. Also was off a few days a week.
Your assumption that all small carriers are just sitting on a cliff waiting to fall is a good indication of how out of touch with reality you really are.
I'll bet you didn't know that 90% of all DOT #'s are issued to companies with a 5 or fewer trucks. "I'll bet you didn't" ...listen to me giving you the benefit of doubt..I KNOW you didn't know that little tidbit.
Unemployed due to Knight Trans-did they do this or something similar to you?

Excellent explanation...like Mega-Cool..

To say that the small companies aren't crooked in anyway is wrong! Not saying all are, but just like big companies there are rotten ones as well as good ones. I know from experience that there are some really bad small outfits!

Many things improve with age,
I don't think this thread will be in that category !!!!!Dryver Thanks this. -
Wow. More than a little disingenuous... don'tcha think? The word MILLION appears on Dictionary.com's results page for "mega" seven times, though your post can be seen to imply that it appears there not at all. Also, lo and behold, the word MILLION appears on Websters-online-dictionary.org's results page for "mega" a whopping 46 times!
What else would you like to be shown? Let us know; we don't mind helping you out a bit... -
Well if you want to get technial about "Mega" in trucking, some of these companies surely have had mega amounts of drivers walk through their doors, or mega amounts of miles a year or even per month or mega amounts of fuel turned to exhaust or something along those lines!
But in the "megafleet" description it has it's niche of many trucks!
So what if there haven't been or do they now have a million trucks, no big deal or is it worth getting all bent out of shape over some defination of one 4 letter word, as when you come down to it MEGA is a four letter word and could become the eighth word not allowed to be said on the air if talking about trucking companies! It becomes a cuss word for many out there!
I'm just sayin! -
Tell your husband not to lie about being a rookie on his app. Lol

Similar situation happened with me and JB hunt once. I made it to orientation got keys and was about to accept my load plan and was called into to safety about something in my DAC report that was incorrect. So I was let go and have the info in my DAC as having worked for them however never leaving the yard. Point is I moved on and other companies will be willing to take you because the reality is there still is a trucking shortage and the driver mills if no one else will take a chance for quota purposes. Good luck and drive safe!
