Worked for night as a student driver, and received my own truck. Please note, Knight has Volvo trucks. They come with 4 batteries. Knight takes out one of the batteries on all of their trucks to save money...hmmm.

My truck broke down on me 5 times within 14000 miles of driving. That is an average of 3000 miles my truck broke down. Reason? I needed new batteries!

I did not make any money with them, I was sitting a lot and stuck in places for days because my truck would not run or because they sent me to places with no freight!

The driver managers are horrible, they do not care. If I had a driver that broke down 5 times for the same issue, I would be up someones arse in the shop in one second.

Apparently my truck was fixed on this last time. My DM called me and told me my truck was ready, I told her I am not working for you anymore. I am tired of not making money, jeopardizing myself and others because I am so worried about my truck I have a hard time concentrating and I am tried of you not caring.

When I went to get into the truck? Yep, the truck would not start! Imagine that! Beware folks, they don't care.

The shop in Phoenix are a bunch of morons. Like forgetting to put the bolts back on the trailer tires. This happened as well. The manager of the shop is a complete indiot!

Knight will send a truck ANYWHERE and then tell the driver to "hang tight" and wait for the local economy to pick up so they can get you a load out of there.

Just passed the Joliet terminal tonight. They had their stupid "hiring drivers now" banner up. No ####, when are those nit wit, f-tard morons not begging for drivers?

500 mile loads with 3 days on them. Yards full of slightly used out of service trade trailers and not an empty trailer in sight.

These are the only good things about Knight I could think of.

That's a legitimate complaint. Our Volvo once shut down on us when the batteries got weak. Nothing wrong with the charging system, no warning, gauges went crazy and then it shut off.

Another legitimate complaint would be that trucks are manufactured with systems that shut down the engine when there is a problem with the batteries.

I find that very hard to believe that he would get a 3 yr safety award & then get fired for his safety record! He's not telling the whole truth.

One problem with Knight Refrigerated is that they are hiring all these young college kids who have never driven a truck and do not know what drivers go through and simply sit behind their computer screens and bark commands and demands without having any insight into the reality of this industry on the driver's end. And it is true, at knight refrigerated the people in the office literally do not care about the drivers. They are always trying to squeeze a dollar out of the dime.

Agreed! They sure were tightwads when I was there. Most companies spell it plain as day, "we pay this much, no reimbursements on truck washes" but Knight just takes it to a whole new level. Be sure and keep good notes and scrutinize your pay settlements. They will "skim" your pay putting you right into the poor house if you don't watch them. Gets real old after a month or so.

Yeah, it happens. There are always trade offs with trucking. Work for a mega and one type of foobar happens, or work for a small-er company and another type of "bend me over" will happen. Honestly, I'd say if you're a student, and are with em, stay there, put in your "dues" and then get the heck out when your employment history, driver abstract looks good enough to do so. You will undoubtedly learn the ins and outs doing so. It's best to learn it from a crook as well (not saying Knight is a crook either as I have never worked for them). Once you do then you are armed with a means of protecting yourself later on, and trust me, you will want to know everything you can before you ever drive for *some* owner ops and *some* small time companies.

Think that is bad, how about when they give ya a "hot load" delivery is on Tuesday as per your dispatch/e-message, and you get it there Monday evening, find out (cause you didn't bother to call, LESSON LEARNED!) that it was suppose to have been there last Friday, they sit ya for 5 days while the big wheels work out a new delivery date, and then try to not pay ya detention cause the load you picked up SUNDAY is late.....

Wait until you go out for someone who doesn't do epass, and you pay for the GW (at the time it was like 45 or 50? can't member now, local) Verazzano, Tapanze? etc, load up over 300 bucks of tolls, don't copy them, send them in with your bol, scale tickets, and logs) only for them to somehow go missing! Oh they found the bol, the logs, but for some reason only found one toll, yeah right.

And then when ya get smart and start copying EVERYTHING you send them, so you can atleast earn a non negative paycheck, all of a sudden you send in 200 to 300 bucks worth of tolls and then 120 of it is given back as toll reimbursements, and the other 180 is TAXED as a Misc. charge. Yep trust me, it can and will get flipping ugly quick.

But these are all things we learn as we go. I hope you find a good honest place to work, and if ya do, please tell us here :biggrin_255:

My driver manager is constantly wanting me to edit out line 4 on duty time from the elogs. He is also wanting me to drive on line 5 which is off duty driving. it is very exhausting especially with all these short loads. I am constantly expected to work during my 10 hour break.
