I got this message last week and my opinion on it is about the same as everyone else's...complete hogwash and a total waste of time. They said that, I think, Phoenix implemented it first and since they did, backing accidents have reduced dramatically. Got two messages in the last couple days that says there have been a couple backing accidents and the drivers didn't send in "goal".

Here's my take on it. Do it if you got time. It's not going to hurt anything. I don't personally see where sending this message will prevent you from having an accident, but if you do have an accident, you can honestly say you sent it. Heck, for that matter, Actually getting out and looking is not a guarranty you won't have an accident. Yes, it helps prevent it, but you could still make a wrong turn with the wheel and push the trailer the wrong way. There's no telling the possible ways an accident could happen.

I agree, kinda, with what Injun had said about the LCQT class. The LCQT is already a required class after getting off the mentors truck. I think that if they are really concerned about backing accidents, revamp the LCQT class to focus more on backing then require all the drivers (or at least the company drivers) to take the course.

The problem is backing accidents. The solution is improved training, not sending a message over the qualcom.

OK just got the word, in addition to sending in GOAL messages the following requirement will go into effect immediately:

Before beginning any backing maneuver, the driver must honk the city horn and then must honk the horn intermittently (every few seconds) during the process of backing.

Yep!! I just got that msg too! This is getting out of control,Do they not know how irritating that would be in a crowded truck stop(to sleeping drivers) at night WTF! And do it on a loading dock. I can allready see and hear all the snickering about the swift drivers starting now.Just silly..............

Is it a safety issue if Swifties are pulled from their trucks and the crap beaten out of them for waking people up? Is that covered by workmen's comp?

I can never understand why sometimes they resend the exact same message repeatedly. I got it the first time. I don't need to see it 2 more times to understand it.

How long do ya think it'll be before all Swift company trucks are equipped with those annoying backup alarms?

So now instead of just concentrating on backing up (apart from losing your bearings when sending that ###### goal message) I have to worry about where my city horn is WHEN I'M IN THE PROCESS OF BACKING UP.

Seems like that's the kind of crap that can GET you into a backing accident.

Sorry, but if they want their crap to beep like a construction vehicle, then they can install those alarms/beeper (whatever they're called) the construction vehicles have.

Really though, I don't feel as safe doing this stuff. What if somebody pulls in behind you when you're reaching down for the qualcomm? What if I'm turning the wheel, looking for my city horn, the wheel slips out of my hand trying to beep it and I go careening off in the wrong direction? Uhhhhh.

Not to mention the inconvienience it is to all the other drivers. First with having to type the message while there's a line piling up behind you, now waking them up if you're pulling into a t/s in the middle of the night.
