I 'm coming up North Capital Street in Wash DC, each intersection has timers on the walk/don't walk signs( in seconds). When it gets down to 2or3 seconds I slow down to stop in time ( they have a lot of red light cameras).Well anyway I'm coming up to an intersection the timer says 4 seconds then yellow and red in about a half second, no 3,2,1,0 then yellow. Needless to say stump on treadle valve( just had to say that, lol) to stop for light. So do you think it was a elecrical malfuntion or done on purpose?

They have to follow the standards of the MUTCD (Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices). But supposingly after a one year study and considering traffic count in an hour, left hand turn conflicts and pedestrian traffic, city engineers can alter the stop lights to suit their needs. To think they consider how long an 18 wheeler takes to go through a city light, hahahaha!

Then again if you go into a little redneck town and they tell Jethro to go set it up, there is no telling what you will get. :) Even though there are standards to follow, I've seen about every possible combination.

I have had to run several camera lights over the years. Never got a ticket though. In order to give you a ticket they have to be able to prove who is driving the truck. Since they are taking a pic of the trailer light they cannot do that.
Or I just got lucky and they only send tickets for trucks that could have possibly stopped.

I would have to disagree. A friend of mine got a ticket in the mail from a redlight camera. It had three pictures on it. Now this was in baltimore so it may be different in each locality.

1st one was him going through the light. 2nd one was him a little farther down the road and the 3rd was of his license plate.

There was no picture of him on the ticket anywhere. I think they just send the ticket to the registered owner. It is up to them to figure out who was driving the vehicle.

If they would make the yellow lights a second or so longer there wouldnt be any reason to run them anyway. But that would be a tad to easy and cut into their wallets wouldnt it.

The other day in DFW there was a tanker crash/fire that shut down the freeway, anyway we on the eastbound side were routed to turn around on the freeway and go back down the wrong way on an onramp and take surface streets and hope for the best because they didn't have detour signs up yet. Anyway going through the light I got blasted by several red light cam flashes from several directions. I'm wondering if they will send a citation....

If it was really about safety they would install signs like they have around Vancouver BC before the intersections that start flashing to let you know the lights are about to change. As long as you are paying attention there is no way you will get stuck trying to get thru an intersection, and will have plenty of time and distance to safely stop. Anything else is just propaganda for revenue enhancement.

I agree with that. A coworker got nailed in Illinois with a red light ticket, 2 years ago, not only did they mail a pic of his truck to the company, they put a film clip on the internet for him to watch, cost? 100 bucks plus the insult of it being on the net for the whole world to see. he was making a left hand turn at the time.
