And he was played by a good actor as well. I just do not want to have to room with these guys. They can call me a ##### for all I care. Just leave me alone to do my thing.

There was a lady one class ahead of me who had maybe 10 years on me. She was quite the vocal lady and took no crap from anyone. One morning, on the way in, one of the "Smart-Arse Clique" (there is a group like this every cycle) was being well, an arse....with Her. She said something to him about it and he responded with a crack about menopause and how it might be affecting her demeanor. She told him' "You can just shut right the &#$* up now, before your mouth overloads your arse!" (My money was on her.) Well, one of the instructors had overheard it. He was told right there in front of everyone that he was not to make such discriminatory remarks and one more like it would have him removed and sent home.
On another occasion, a newly licensed student was on his final day of orientation. He was called out to meet his mentor. It wasn't long after going out to the truck with the mentor that he returned to the Driver Services office to request a new mentor. He was asked why he couldn't go with the guy assigned to him. He said that he couldn't go out on a truck with a Black guy because he would never be able to sleep. Say, what? Yeah...can't trust 'em. He was sent home. On his own ticket.
Swift does not tolerate discrimination. But they have to know about it.inkeper, tazaaa, teddy_bear6506 and 2 others Thank this. -
KH you are better than that. Don't worry about em and hang in there. They will probably wash out.

KH, I agree, there are always fools out there, and they are just that way becasue of the way that they were brought up. I applaud you. You are doing what you want, and you are handling it well. Keep it up. In 20 years, I can tell you about descrimantion. I always think that I have seen it all, and I learn, I have not. I have a Chinese wife, and you can just imagine what I go through.

OK first of all they are wrong for saying those things. You have a myriad of choices of what to do about it. I would suggest knowing who you are inside and not letting them dictate who you are.
Everywhere we go in life somebody wants something from us-- usually our money. TV, radio, internet, newspapers, magazines etc etc all are filled with ads to let you know about products and services you just cannot live without, just need some of your money.
Bullies need something too-- because they are insecure in themselves, they need to feel better about themselves by putting other people down. The answer is to not give them what they want. They want a reaction, they want confrontation, anger something. Give them nothing. Show them their words mean nothing. Usually this is enough for them to stop. But the truly desperate bully cannot give up and digs deep for the insults til he gets that reaction he's looking for. When I was a kid if someone said something about my mama, it was ON.
Looking back I knew my mama wasn't what he said, I shouldn't care what he said about her, he doesn't know what he's talking about. He had only one agenda and that was to get to me. It is difficult to see the agenda of bullies when it is happening, but put things in slow motion and realize it is very simple, they are needing and wanting something from you, just don't give it to them.Gears, lostNfound, Injun and 1 other person Thank this. -
I have to agree with everything Scottie said. KH, the best way to get them back is to be the best student in the class, tests, driving, all of it. That will infuriate them. But whatever, do not stoop to their level. Good luck to you!
scottied67 and Injun Thank this. -
Ask them if they would like to have their home addresses sent to a pissed off former Marine in NC.Injun, tazaaa and scottied67 Thank this. -
Hmmm....I wonder if they actually know of the benefits of a good tomahawk....
Whatever you do, KH. Do not lose your cool. They aren't worth getting sent home over. -

Well. One thing I can say. This young man, at the age of 23, could tell you more about the transportation industry as a whole (to include air, water and ground transportation) than I could tell you in a month. It's one of the amazing things about Autism in all of its forms, whether mild or severe. Autistic people have incredible talents often overlooked due to some of the other symptoms associated with it. Hunter's happens to be an interest in transportation.
And once he learns something about it, he will never, ever forget it. It will be stored in his brain for instantaneous retrieval whenever it's needed. He is so high-functioning that, aside from speech patterns and mannerisms, you would never know he is affected. I believe he has found his forte and will excel.
And I wish I could be a fly on the wall when he makes those guys look like the dummies they are by flying through the class while they struggle and watch their buddies get sent home.JimDriv3r, Lady K, Jarhed1964 and 7 others Thank this.
