No you won't make 50k at Knight. It's not about knowledge and expieriance at Knight, you can't work when they tell you there is no freight.

As for reefers, one thing that helps is running it on continuous mode when sleeping. They are quiet when maintaining temp, it's the starting and stopping that is unpleasant, with the noise and movement. Another thing to consider is the outside air temp. If it matches the temp of your load, in cycle mode, it might not have to start all night. Some shippers require continous running of the unit, this usually deep frozen foods that are shipped at -10 or below.

I am currently back with knight for a 2nd time .. as for the question about columbus terminal

columbus terminal is like the other terminals, they all have the dms and the ppl in the office ... i have been there a few times, they are nice when i am there ... just remember not all knight terminals have fuel and shops ...

on the refer side of knight ... alot would say refer is the way to go .. they say you get more miles with refer side of it and you never see a refer trailer that is in bad condition... sometimes on the dry side you get a trailer that the tandoms dont slide or something else is wrong, but not very often ..

i am out of the carlisle terminal cause i live in PA .. if you go to knight you will be based out of the terminal closest to where you live.. if you live on the east coast like me and you are in texas, pa still dispatches you, but they go with whatever the terminals in tx have available on their boards ...

if anyone wants to know about knight best way to get me fast is by yahoo messenger bubbatrucker08 ...

i have been with knight off and on now for 2 yrs ... knight is not perfect, and neither is any other company ... every company has its up and downs and every company has their complainers and the drivers who think the company is awesome ...

best advise when thinking of any company is to ask some of that companys drivers at truck stops, try not to ask all of them in a certain area, try asking the drivers in different parts of the country .. you may also want to ask what terminal they are from, ... some from the west coast may have bad opinions if they are in the east and vice-versa ... just my opinion...

Dna Mach hit it on the head about making 50k. I don't see how it's possible at Knight. They are a GREAT company otherwise. I highly recommend to those that want a great job, good benefits, good equipment, & want to always run legal.

I personally need more money. I got out of trucking & back into business management. It's been a long time finding this new job in this economy because I specialize in new commercial construction.

I came away with a lot of respect for the OTR driver. Maybe I'll be back behind the wheel because you never know in this economy. For the moment though I'm going to be banking a good salary, sleeping in my own bed with my incredible wife and spending more time with my 15 year old son & 20 year old daughter.

1026 thats a bummer to hear you are leaving. I too, have worked construction for years, was even a superintendant at both Pardee Homes and KB Homes. I am still also a licensed general contractor. I was hoping to get out of construction entirely and get into something stable, since the economy tanked. Your last post was pretty discouraging; from what I understand, the first year is always pretty poor paywise, after which its gets better with every year. It seems that you didnt stay very long, but Im sure things got pretty frustrating when the pay wasnt all that great. I do know that construction is lousy right now; nobody is building anything, but maybe some remodels and tenant improvements might be happening. Im gonna give trucking a try, if I can stay with it for two years, then I'll see where it stands: maybe stay with it or get back into construction. Good luck to both you and your family.

The Columbus terminal is one of the smaller terminals. It is currently being remodeled and should be pretty nice when its done. as for running frieght out of there, as with all our terminals, it is you who decides where to run, we have no forced dispatch. the driver gets with his/her dispatcher when they first get together and lets them know where they want to run and how hard they want to run. not all the DM,s are great but you can always change boards if your DM is nopt getting you what and where you want

sounds like you are doing right with your e-logs. always hit line 1 when your wheels stop. make sure you show a few minutes on line 4 for pretrip and for fuel and edit your logs every day before you approve them. make sure you take out any line 4 that you dont need (leaving in for pretrip and fuel only) and be sure to show 8 hours on line 2 out of your 10 hour break. dont abuse line 5 but use it if yu need it to get to a safe haven or for genuine personal use (walmart, etc.) good luck with the company. i have been here 3 years and like them. pm me if you have any other questions i can help with
