This is about one old curmudgeon I know who still stares out the window at a 1963 international freight train front end , and remembers the howling of a big detroit bristling underneath the steel hood of that old rig , on an old two lane highway , with smoke pouring from her stacks as that old detroit deisal put it to her tandams . He still remembers a 40 footer behind with smokin' hot beef behind him waiting on the stock yards , and zilch for time , double stacked at 14 feet in the air , making her howl down the highway , a picture of a little woman taped to the window , and a rosary hung on the wheel for the man upstairs . I remember that rig still , learned to pull hay with it when I was younger , and making that detroit pour a column of smoke into the air . He now thinks it is still the 60's , think white is still a major player on the road , and thinks his old rig still out of the factory . He can no longer push in a clutch , or float a gear , he can't climb into the cab of that mighty deisal he so prized . I know one day I will have one last load of smokin' freight that just can't afford to wait . He knows its comin' , and even with that jake growling with all it's might , he knows his old deisal won't be able to stop , downshift as he might . I will wake up that deisal motor one last time , and make her blow black smoke for a country mile . She will have to one last chance to growl , then howl as I hit tenth , with a wieght behind me heavier than any load she has ever pulled , of that of her master . Then one last time one a lonesome stretch of highway , with granny on the passenger side , in black , will shed a heavy tear , as I flip the switch , to let that jake roar one more time . family member's with ranging from kenworth to peterbuilt's will make make it better one him knowing they are behind him at St. peters gate already docked with thier one last load , with the engines on high to greet him , waiting for him to load with a hot load of frieght that can't wait , not for monoatary reasons , but for family reason , to driving right in front of every driver that this family has still living . with thier stacks blowing black coal , moving faster than a high ball train , going with the the next generation of drivers out on these highways , thier big deisal engines howling knowing we that we only catch in the one thing that makes any man equal . I don't want to make that haul fellas , but every day he goes downhill in that easy chair , like a heavy hauler with no brakes , no air , and no way out . I don't think I can sit in the same cab .......
