I have seen the threads on Trans Am lease, which I would have to be a total ####### to take on right out of school. Question on them, are they still doing only the lease thing or they hiring company drivers? have been preapproved by them for orientation as soon as I finish cdl school next Thursday 9/15/2011.

As for Werner same thing, approved for orientation, as soona as I finish cdl school. Werner recruiter immediately brought up Dollar General, which I stopped him and told em, look, I am a newbie, your job is the recruit and you will offer me the world to go there. Had em give me the mileage they pay instead of the 750.00 to 850.00 weekly BS he was telling me for DG which included unloading.

I am just wondering, if I do go TA, which I wont let them talk me into a lease, I am going to be able to make any money with them being a company driver?

Pretty much on same thing with Werner, I do know, which the recruiter tried to play down, that most likely once there they will put me in a team driving situation, would I be able to make any money there as well? I am hoping to make about 2000.00 take a month if all goes well.

I did have a 3rd choice, USA trucking, but I stopped the recruiter when she said, .26 cents a mile, and at the year mark of being there was still under .30 cents a mile.

Any help info or insight would be greatly appreciated.

You might as well scratch Trans Am off your list. You can't make it as a company driver there as they push the leasing scam too hard. They only offer "company driver" jobs to get people in there in the first place. This is documented many times here on TTR.

I would just get a few years experience with the same company and then your options will greatly improve. I've never done Dollar General myself but I do know many that have done DG and Family Dollar. It's hard work, pays well, and your home quite a bit. Several times a week if you live close to a DC plus I think those accounts usually work you five days with two days off every week.

trans am use to be decent back in the day ( 2005) notice i said decent, they had some good trainers and shop guys and i generally liked the people. that being said at the time their equipment sucked. their trailers where in the shop more than on the road. i am getting ready to go back over the road. i have narrowed it down to builders transport( home on weekends) and us xpress, i have heard and read good things about both.

why are you limiting yourself to those to sheety companys?

    Look at:

    Watkins Shepard
    Epes
    KLLM
    Maverick
    TMC
even roehl is better then TA and Weener

Yay we are almost as awesome as tmc! If only we made less money but had nicer equipment! Lmao I agree with AT he listed some good companys. Idk kllm seems to be pushing their lp really hard now too.

KLLM does, but it sounds like this guy is smart enough not to lease (no offence) and being a KLLM company driver still pays better then Werner and TA. So i figured i'd throw them on there as another option that hires from down there.

and TMC drivers make $40K+ first yr just saying...:biggrin_25522:

one of the reasons AT is that i haven't driven since a class A since 05. i drove for LOOMIS FARGO for 3 years on their trucks and straight bodies but nothing with a trailor, and those seem to be the 2 companies that are willing to give me a chance without me having to go back through cdl school which i can't afford right now. tmc has some nice trucks but have heard they are a pain to work with and same thing for maverick. i will be looking at the other ones you recommended though. be safe

I have a feeling this will be a hard learned lesson. I hope it works for you honestly my best advice is if you go to either make sure your weekly household budget is under 300 bucks cause that's probably all you will get from either.

i talked to roehl about 3 month's ago and they wanted me to go through there school, although i already have my cdl's. i don't mind going otr with a trainer for a month because i haven't driven in awhile but the way the recruiter was talking it is like 3 grand for their school. if i go with xpress it will be as a team driver as i have heard good things about teams and that solo is not that great in xpress. thanks again
