Yep it's 70hrs/8days ... but isn't also 60hrs/7days ... if you put in 11.75 hrs a day, you'll only have 1.25 hrs available to work on the 6th day.
But again, it's hypothetical ... when I get loads and when I can get them in dictate how I run.
I go out OTR for 6 weeks at a time. Last time out I did three 34 resets and one 24 hr jump. This time out, I'm now starting my 5th week running off of recap and have run everyday. Some days were as little as 2 hrs, one was split across midnight and was 13.5 hrs.
Question about the 70 hour/8 day rule

I'm using the 70/8. I would imagine anyone running 60/7 would be doing a reset each week.
Whatever works for you is best and I'm sure the loads dictate in a lot of cases. I'm just stuck on the post saying that running more with the reset can't be done. It can and is by many. -
And not to mention, that if a good hot load comes up, you'll have to decline as you don't have the available hours to push it to the max. I don't like having to push, but if that hot load carries one to gravy, it's well worth it! Dispatchers may often be idiots, but they aren't completely stupid; and they soon learn to give recappers the pokey loads, as they never have the hours for anything else. Why limit your flexibility by unnecessarily running recap? If your schedule is such you can't squeeze in a 34, then you haven't much choice but to recap; but it should never be your first choice!
And I'll add that in my business (carhauling,) we tend to have use more on duty time than most; as it's not very realistic to show 15 minutes for the time to load 9 or 10 cars. If we had to recap, we be doing a lot of sitting, waiting on our books to catch up.scottied67 and KRAKAJACKJONSON Thank this. -
I'll have to read that a couple times!!!! I was very curious about the whole time management thing . Now I'm just a little confused. The 11 in 14 till ya hit 70 then restart seems rather simple Except it would seem to mess with yer biological clock. But from what I've read truckin does that any way. But I don't get the recap thing. I was just readin a thread about 1nonly doin that. It just isn't clickin. But then I'm not a driver yet and I learn better from doin it than thinkin about it sometimes.

If you really want to mess up your biological clock, use the split breaking for several days in a row. You could go from one end of the country to the other in a little over 4 days in a 62 MPH truck using this technique. You'll be running a little over 13 hours a day driving and keeping it no more than 10 hours off duty between your 2 and 8 hours breaks. The other hour will be for pretrips and fuel, and postrips.

What is the split breaking?

Hey guys. New to the forum. Been reading up on logs. What if i work say 50 hours and all of a sudden its slow and told not to come in and ive been off for two days? I can restart at 70 right or does it matter? How do you mark a restart on the logs?
-
I can't sit there and drive for 11 hours straight. But, I can sit there and drive for 5.5 hours straight, take a 2 hour break and drive 5.5 hours again for a total of 11 hours then take an 8 hour break in the sleeper and drive 5.5 hours again rinse and repeat. To break out of the cycle just take 10 or more hours off duty.
Just make a comment on the remarks area of the logs, 34 hour reset completed at City, State. -
