I remember spending the night in the Lincoln yard because of heavy snow one time. Got out the next morning and counted 35 trucks in the median or on the side of the highway before I even made it to Iowa...gotta love those "get out of my way" types....

DedHed, you are correct in taking as much time as you need. The objective is to DELIVER the load, not dump it in a ditch. I have never let weather, traffic or mechanical issues cause me any grief, heck you can't do a thing about them in any case.

Just stay safe out there now that the weather is turning.

Well, since everyone isn't on twitter or facebook, I'll spread the official news here. It was just announced yesterday(12/6/11) that we are officially being sold.....na just kidding....but we are officially changing to a dedicated dispatcher system and ditching the zone system. Crete management calls them 'asset managers'. It has been reported that Shaffer is currently 60% switched, and Crete is 10%. Shaffer is suppose to be completely switched by the end of Jan, while Crete will be completely done over the next year. We had heard from a few drivers here that had been assigned a dispatcher, but had never heard it publicly announced that they were going to a 100% dedicated dispatcher system until now.(the advertisements I saw said 'regional - dedicated dispatchers'). I wonder if the Shaffer drivers are dizzy from the rapid 180's they've been doing with switching systems back and forth. Please, dear God, let me be assigned someone who is patient, thick skinned, and already knows how to do their job w/o OJT.

I worked for Crete from 92 to 03 and I had 3 different dedicated dispatchers. I was on the GE and Advance Transformer fleets.

Dedicated dispatchers were the 2nd best thing Crete offered right behind multiple load offerings.

This is good news. I am seriously weighing leaving the container division after the first of the year...this is a plus

Well my good luck has hit a speed bump with my cornbinder. Enroute to S. Boston, VA, just north of Indy, my check engine light came on...and while we (the shop and I) were checking out all the endless amounts of sensor plugs to make sure nothing worked loose...we noticed the top plate on the right front spring was cracked in half...so instead of a 2900 mile week, I am stuck in the International dealership.

You'll come to learn that those check engine lights come and go. As long as my truck is running...so am I.
