What other terminal besides spartanburg did they close?
-
They closed Indy maintenance. You can still park in that lot by the Mcdomalds.
Maintenance is closed down. -
Oh, ok. I really didn't consider that one a terminal.
-
I would not read anything into those 2 places closing. With the Roanoke terminal just a few hours away and the new Atlanta terminal just about the same distance away I can see why Spartanburg became expendable. I would have closed Spartanburg if it were my decision. I have no first hand knowledge but I think they have a maintenance facility near Chicago. If you look at it this way the decisions to close these places actually seems smart.

Thats true. But I wont go to Atlanta terminal. Its to small. If I have to pick up a load there. I will drop my empty at the Conley yard. Just not enough room to maneuver. Atlanta is to tight.

.......wrong thread...........

Yes... it is located in South Holland on E 168th. Have to watch how you go in there as it is illegal for a truck to cross the RR Tracks. Company directions (when I worked there) said there is only one legal way to get to the terminal. There are actually 2 or 3 different ways that are legal.
Location has a 3 bay shop with 2 washers, 2 dryers, and a small lunchroom with microwave. Has small lounge area with TV and also has a HUGE yard for trailers. Never seen it close to being half full myself. -
Are they making you follow this already? It doesnt have to be implemented until july 2013

I was reading up on the new HOS rules and the limit of one restart a week doesn't scare me nearly as much as the rules change on what can be logged as off duty. If I understood them correctly, it said that time spent waiting to be loaded or unloaded could no longer be logged as off duty. It didn't mention if logging it as sleeper berth was acceptable or not. If its not ok and it must be logged as line 4 then thats going to screw the drivers in this industry. I can just imagine places like GP or Food Lion where I've had to sit 5+ hours in their yard or at their dock. Having to log 8 hours on duty my productive week will be very short. Either that or I will just start cheating heavily. I will show arrival at the customer's town and I will take a break for the first four hours then show 15 minutes of bumping the dock and no more than an hour of waiting at the dock.
I hope I'm just being a Chicken Little here and that maybe I misinterpreted it. Otherwise I think the backlash from drivers will be immense when this goes into effect. I think the unions will demand that the drivers be paid for all waiting time that they have to log on duty which will either cause freight rates to go up to compensate or will cause the companies to lobby to have this changed.
