I have a ham radio friend that started his career at stevens. The equipment and the training was top notch. The weekly pay was about
$150 (per week) less than other driver mills because of the super low cpm.
    He did his six months.(pheeew:biggrin_2555:))
and is now making .39 at Crete and thats from day one . So everybody starts somewhere. But there is no rule that says newbee's have to be delinquent on their bills back at the home front
because of a bad starter company's cpm

To answer a few Q's around here:

Personally I prefer ThermoKing over Carrier, as in my (limited) experience the TK units are a whole lot easier to live with. Carriers shake the whole rig when they start and stop, and they run really freakin' loud; TK units OTOH are pretty darned quiet. If you've got a TK and park next to a truck with a Carrier, the Carrier will still wake you up every now and then but you'll have no problem sleeping through your TK unit's cycling. I dunno how they are on fuel burn or maintenance, seeing as how I'm a company dude and don't really keep track of that. If you ask really nicely I could keep track of it though. :D

Good TCU companies? Ain't found one yet. Bad? Well if you wanna get hosed thoroughly but get to spend your (days on end of) downtime in a reeally nice truck go with Lessors Inc out of Eagan MN. They used to be fairly decent but since switching to e-logs in June 2011 they've really hit the ####ter. I'm lucky to hit 2000 miles a week, and sorry folks I am NOT one of those permanently late drivers. Seven years OTR and I can still count my driver-chargeable lates on one hand.

+Grindem (jeez I've been using Google+ too much) tell your ham bud 73 from KG6OHK.

I was wondering if reefers have side skirts equipped on them? I have seen the refrigerated units fuel tank is mounted right where a side skirt would usually cover?

I agree TK's are quieter. The TK's I have also use less fuel.

BUT, when it comes to cooling power, the Carriers I have are superior. A load when it's 95 degrees outside and humid, I want one of my Carriers cooling it.

    Just my experience though......

Some do, some don't. If they do have a skirt on it, they'll have a ole cut out for the fill nozzle, for the tank.

they may have great looking equipment but they don't pay squat for a new hire let alone a guy that's been with them 20 yrs
