I was driving to shipper for pickup the Qualcomm navigation took me down final road to shipper, it was a 2 lane road 1/2 down the mile road I could see warehouse then the road goes to single lane road and I get a mile down road dead end road closed no way to turn around or backup a mile in the dark there was a dirt road that lead to road by shipper I tried driving it well half way threw stuck road was about 300 ft I managed to get close to road but. No luck sent 55 they sent wrecker they pulled me out and ripped off part of bumper so claims said it was unpreventable and wasnt sure about mud being stuck was. Considered does any one know if stuck in mud is consider a accident????
I know rookie mistake should have shut down til daylight and tried to a backup a mile,

Most companies do. Not sure about Swift though.

Thanks for posting that. Others can learn from that. Expect the usual crowd to come in and harangue your over it though. Remember your choices. Understand these trucks don't do as well off the beaten path.
A21CAV Thanks this. -
Ya sure they will but I'm more worried about my driving record trying to keep clean, can't see how they can charge u with a accident though nothing I did caused damage except to the dirt road wrecker broke bumper off. Just hope I don't lose my job or Platnium status.
I know it was dumb and should have waited it out until sun up my 1st big mistake as a driver.
I plan to call DM and see if it's gonna hurt my record in the morning. -
I hope I am wrong, but I think you will be tagged with a preventable accident for this one. The navigation system is good, but it should only be used as a supplemental tool to the Swift directions(mac 23) and the atlas.
Hang in there! -
Preventable. Learn from it. Next time back up and stay on the pavement. NEVER TAKE YOUR DRIVE AXLES OFF THE PAVEMENT.
My mentor started at Swift in '07. He backed into a dock and didn't open the roll up door. Dumba ss forklift driver drove into the door. Swift gave him a preventable backing accident. He just pulled his DAC. It is on there. -
When I have my Walmart trailer (roll up door) they (Walmart manager) do not want the door opened by the driver. They want me to hit the dock with the door closed, then they roll the door open from inside the store. Managers will have a kiniption if the driver opens the roll up door first then hits the dock. The chain of custody is compromised.
However I am not surprised it turns out to be the truck driver's fault when a forklift operator, going forward, in full plain view, pokes his forks through the trailer door. -
Stuck in mud - get out no damage = ok
Just an on-road service call.
Damage = preventable
I got stuck, came around a bend, road out due to high water.
Had to try u-turn. (Edit: STEERS) sunk into soft shoulder.
(Guess I should have backed up 1/2 mile?)
Wrecker driver wanted to yank the front bumper.
Would have been trouble.
I got him to pull it out backways from the trailer = everything ok.
And oh, every truck (should) has a tow hook. Locate yours for if there is a next time.Last edited: Apr 22, 2012

yep! thats the way swift operates.....i made my mistakes and sometimes it took me weeks if not months to see and acknowledge a minor backing accident was my fault, and what i could have done different to prevent it....also hit an animal during training,on a dark rural road, and still have a hardtime seeing how it was my fault...and preventable...i was flat out told on this forum that i should quit, that this just wasn't a good deal for me at all! but guess what? THAT PERSON AINT HERE NO MORE BUT I AM,i took complete and total blame, and promised to always try better and pay attention more to the point of paranoia.....the point is is swift allows you to make SOME mistakes, depends how you handle,it i really doubt your out a job over that....

Always remember that the animal hit you, you did not hit the animal. Once you say you hit the animal it becomes a preventable. The animal ran out of the darkness and hit your truck, always.
bigmikectn, misterG, LaBubba and 2 others Thank this.
