Unfortunately, JB Hunt could ruin your driving career if you are not careful or if you fail to comply with their way overwhelming company "safety first" rules. Their rules are only good to go in their favor. If you want to pursue a career in trucking, don't make the mistake of joining them and believing what the recruiters say.
I know that economically, times now can mean that this company might be the best choice... think again. If JB Hunt Trans was a good place to drive for then so many drivers would not be writing such horror stories about how they manipulate to get the job done.
About the safety part... they only preach safety but they consistently send out trucks on the road that should be RED Tagged Out of service. Unfortunately, there are many brown nosers that are afraid to loose their jobs for rocking the boat and not saying no to the supervisors and dispatchers for overweight trailers and tractors that have mechanical problems that never get fixed no matter how many times the equipment is written up as unsafe or defected.
I feel like by me writing this in this forum I have done a public service to the citizens of the USA, you will do your research and not play into making these billionaires any richer at your expense.
Beware of jbhunt

How do you feel that you have done a public service? You have not really said anything. I personally worked for JB for 5 years, it was the best job I ever got fired from. I broke the rules and payed the price and was fired. It wasn't the safety departments fault it wasn't my fleet managers fault it wasn't the shop's fault it was my fault. I knew the rule and choose too violate said rule. I made the choice and payed the price. As far as truck that need to be red tagged, I have never had trouble at any terminal getting repairs that affected the safety of me or the motoring public. If the problem didn't effect safety it had to wait until I got back to my home terminal. As a matter of fact JB is the only company in nearly 26 years of driving that I can honestly say, I could run 100% legal and still make better then 50k per year.
Blackjack Thanks this. -
I am wondering,in this time of CSA2010,companies wont fix trucks? Anyway, welcome back J.B.,Havn't seen you hear for awhile.

I feel I need to make myself more clear.
First I agree that they do keep you more legal than most other companies but for less pay.
Second, there is a big difference between DCS and OTR. DCS has certain contracts that are failing in areas such as safety due to lack of funds from a loss of revenue from accidents. This loss of revenue reflects the condition of the trucks since there is not enough funds to fix them without alerting corporate that the terminal manager is a total idiot along with his staff.
These accounts do not have a repair facility on the premises. So drivers would go out the gate with defective equipment or wait for a truck to come back. Mostly, they feel intimidated by dispatchers as the dispatchers know there is a problem with the trucks and assign them out any way!
I personally believe that the integrity that JB Hunt instilled in this company has diminished in the past ten or so years.
You, sir , are of a rare breed of driver to defend JBH when there is so much wrong with their double standard ideology. I wish you good luck in your career and please try harder to go by the rules which are intended for everyone. -
dont work for a trucking outfit. especially the large ones. their philosophy, if you can call it that, is SCREW YOU I WANT THE MONEY AND I DONT CARE IF YOUR CHILDREN STARVE: I NEED A NEW SAILBOAT< A HOME AT THE LAKE AND ILL START A CHARITY SO THE WORLD DOESNT KNOW WHAT I REALLY DO AND ON TOP OF ALL THE MONEY I GET FROM SCREWING YOU ILL PAY MYSELF MILLIONS FOR THE CHARITY TOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! I'VE GOT A BOATLOAD OF LAWYERS AND ACCOUNTANTS AND I'D RATHER PAY THEM A MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR THAN TREAT YOU LIKE A HUMAN BEING!!!!!! if you don't believe me, go to work for someone you don't know. i didn't feel this way until i drove a truck for 2 years.
