Unfortunately I dont have a choice. The freight's gotta go.

But I usually do thorough pre trips and con-way has a decent maintenance program so I'm not too worried. :)

I'm running.... up to Canada. Did you know, as long as you have it noted on your pretrip sheet (must have written Pre Trip sheet as opposed to written Post Trip as in the U. S.) you can drive around with minor deficiencies like burned out lights or a missing lugnut. Repair facilities are few and far between and the MOT gives some understandable leeway.

when the coast guard would board your boat out to sea if everything looked ok they pretty much ran you by quickly
i would like to assume DOT is the same All your papers in order, truck neat and clean, engine washed everything visible and tidy you will get thru faster then the guy with crap everywhere and everything dirty and greasy. Can't see the oilseal levels for the grease and grime and a dash full of junk be a red flag if i was a DOT officer

As you know my route don't have any scale houses but that don't stop an officer from doing the 72 hr sting.I've seen them hiding at exits where they know trucks take to dodge scales.Cops are starting early this yr.I've seen many out all this week and stopping ONLY trks. Most the time i'm lucky if I pass one officer. Not this week though.

TXDOT has portables set-up already outside the ports. They were working very hard yesterday, had a line of containers to go thru when I drove by (I only had 3 small crates on my truck so they waved me by)

On a side note... I've seen that the OS/OD loads posted and Haz-Mat loads are paying about .50-1.00 over the usual for next week. Probably because of the 72hr blitz I'm guessing.
