Becoming a Reefer?

My folks told me that I could be anything I wanted to be when I was young>never thought about being a reefer though. lol


Seriously though, I don't believe it's quite that simple. I am guessing that reefers have stronger bulkheads than just a dry van to support the reefer unit that weights 1,000 lbs. Secondly, it your van isn't insulated it won't work.

 

I used to be a microwave. After thinking about it and years and years of people "cooking" horrible "tv dinners", never setting my clock and using me to store stuff on, I had decided to become a reefer. Now I get to travel the world!

Reefer trailers are insulated all around and have grooved floors to allow the air to flow back to the reefer unit. You would be better off to look into used reefer trailers from one of the reefer fleet companies. Them thar traalars are expensive....

 

You really can't turn a dry box into a reefer. It's not feasible. You need to insulate the walls, put new flooring down so the air flows, mount a tank and the unit.

 

I agree about the insulation. But the flooring is a myth. You do not need ribbed floors in fact you can get them without. You just can't load product on the floor. When product is on pallets there is plenty of air flow.

 

True. We have multitemps without ribbed flooring but I don't think you want wooden flooring in a reefer.
