Hello drivers, i am currently in California and got a great job offer in Colorado hauling fuel. I have to get my HazMat back onto my Colorado licence. Instead of going to Colorado re doing my test and fingerprints then hanging out for a few weeks waiting for the TSA paper, i'd like to stay in California while waiting for the TSA clearance to come through then go to Colorado to take the HazMat test. So my question is, i still have my Colorado licence so i should be able to do my fingerprints before i take the HazMat test, and considering the fingerprints all go to the same place i should be able to fill out the form online and then get my fingerprints done in California considering the licence i have is the licence the HazMat will go on, is this correct or can i not do it this way? Thanks guys.

Is you license from Colorado?
-
Yes it is, i never changed it over

I see your post says your license is Colarado. You can do it in California. It will go to the state that your license is from. You will get a letter in the mail when it is complete and sent to your states DMV. Of course I am only talking about your TSA background check. You will have to go to Colarodo to take the test to add your endorsement.

You have a Colorado license, you currently live in Comifornia, your location is in Phoenix, Arizona and YOU WANT TO HAUL HAZMAT? Something doesn't add up.

Trying to understand your question... But sounds like you are asking if you can do your prints in California, and then take the HazMat test in Colorado? If that's the case, the answer is "yes". Once you get your background check done, they mail you a letter stating you are eligible to test for HazMat and have it on your license. You will be able to carry this over into any state. At least that is how it worked for me.

yep. fingerprints anywhere. wait for letter. then go to dmv.
and be prepared to take a day off. in case you fail, and fail, and fail, and fail.
i took the test 6 times before passing. 2 years later my license expired. time to renew. this second go around took me 3 tries. -
haha let me clear up the Phoenix location, i was originally in Phoenix, moved to Colorado for this job, but the insurance company told them not until i turned 25 (September) so i had no reason to be there at that point or Arizona so i kept my Colorado licence and came to California to be with my Girlfriend until September, ive been here 2 weeks and the manager called to tell me they actually got the "ok" to bring me on early
Sorry for the confusion regarding my question, to simple it down i was really just asking if it's ok to get my fingerprints done here in California then go to Colorado and do the HazMat test, which you all seem to have answered yes i can do that. Thank you all for the answers.Doublecutter Thanks this. -
I do find it interesting that you were able to bring your HazMat to any state with you. I had it originally in Colorado when i worked for Hill Petroleum, then when i went to Arizona they told me i can only keep my tanker, but a "new" law imposed said in order to receive my HazMat i have to retest and get re finger printed. When i went back to Colorado for this job i told the DMV what they told me in Arizona and they confirmed this that they as well do the same thing, if i would have had my HazMat in Arizona, Colorado would have taken it away and made me re do everything as well.
