This may sound harsh, but if you are so focused on a tailgater that it impairs your ability to stay in your lane, I wouldn't want you working for me.

I took out a traffic cone, the ones for marking lanes that have the weighted black bases, last week. Who ever set them up had to be drunk. The one I hit was a good 4ft offset to the rest. I missed it with my tractor, but the front trailer tandem nailed it. Of course since it was a construction zone, there was a car getting intimate with my mudflaps. That didn't bother me, but I laughed after hitting that cone, because the idiot didn't want to get so close after that.

Now why be concerned about being tailgated? How severe is the accident going to be if he/she does run into you? Are you going to get to go on down the road, or be tied up for hours being involved in an accident? Most important... injury or death of occupants in vehicle that runs into you. I'd say you're pretty cold blooded, and not much of a human being if you really don't care if someone gets seriously hurt or killed. I think no one wants to be a part of that, EVEN if it's their fault.

While it's important to know all that is going on around you. ( back/ sides/ front) The most important thing is what's in front of you. People behind you are of no threat to your safety. That's a long way up through your trailer.

Sounds like you had something rattle you. You live you learn.

You can't fix stupid. People who tailgate do it at their own risk. I wouldn't lose 1 breath of sleep if their stupidity caused them grief as long as I was where I was suppose to be, doing what I was suppose to be doing.

hum i treat driving like a nascar race, i'm in first place, and he tailgating me , hum this remind's of my time in Wis, i was taking my shortcut, this hi-way is about 24 mile's south of Mantowac, wi and this road was full of hill's, little one's, but enuff too upshift and downshift, i practiced alot that night, i had heavy load of brake drum's and was head'ed too my truck stop too take a ten, cause i knew i was getting close, everyone said this boss hogg and rosco road , now i know why, i got into the middle of this hy-way , right at the bottom of the hill a red car pull's out behind me ,keep going too left, go ahead , you got a double yellow buddy, then he did that for long way's , never bother me, then i think he got on his cb radio, becuse a van pulled out in front of me , as i could see it pull out, , now i didn't have power for these hills,as it was, now i got this joker doing 35 mph, in front of me,so i back out of it , , the guy behind was really swinging wide now, i just about too pull out and pass this meatball when i seen behind me, he pull out same time o crap, so i pulled it back in , then the van hit the town limit's so i slowed even more, got inside the town limit's the local pulled me over, no what i was doing 25 mph in my lane, ask'ed why i got pulled you over , i said yes , because your front steers went over the yellow line on the hyway, and i said yes , but that yellow line was for the other traffic lane, no mean's all traffic , i said i seen the way was clear and went for it , so i think all three was tied in together , because as i went too there cement plant too spend the 10 ,i was gonna use at the truck stop , i had too do it in this heck town, so no shower ether , but as i pulled away i seen in the mirrors , all three was carry on and laughing , pointing at that dum ole truck driver and that netted them $456 for the town. so i never took that shortcut again, went around the long way, now who ever behind me tough, i'm going by the weather , road or whatever in front of me and drive that way, if mean's going 23 mph on a interstate due to a blizzard and i know i can make it too the truck stop so be it, they can deal with it as i don't worry about them no more.
