I heard they aren't supposed to divulge that. Its an inside code thing. Sometimes you have to wear the Secret Ring. I respect that.

Take notice of how many are 100% contract carriers now. It seems WM is slowly doing away with company drivers.

When my good friend went to work for them in 1998, his pay checks averaged out at $.47 - $.49 per mile. They've had a few pay raises since then. When they tell you it's good and they don't have any turnover, that should be enough without getting into specifics. Which I think is discouraged by the company if I'm not mistaken. I know most truck drivers aren't Sherlock Holmes, but that should be plenty of evidence of a great paying job.

Take note of all the rumors and statements made by people who don't know what they are talking about!!! What you are seeing are the Grocery/reefer division, which have been contractors from the beginning. The general merchandise warehouses (the majority of goods and where the money is made) are still company drivers except when they get real busy and have to bring in outside help for short periods of time.

besides do you really think england is gonna keep the contract? walmart company drivers will always be around. there might be a few trailers getting pulled by other companies but mostly comp. drivers for walmart.

It's very interesting, I delivered milk for 7 years, and i delivered to the same two Wal-mart stores 4 days a week for 4 years straight. All the employees of the store would constantly complain about being treated terribly by management. But every Wal-Mart driver I would see seemed to really like what they did. I can confirm that I noticed they never touched any product. A couple of the drivers even said the company doesn't want them touching anything. I also can say I have never seen them driving any bad equipment. It always seemed like the trucks they drove were always newer models.

Truth be told, i used to hate seeing them coming, because I knew I would probably get kicked out of the receiving door for them. A good thing about delivering for them is you are only delivering to your own stores(WalMart and Sams Club) so you don't wait in line. When you show up, everyone else moves for you. And I will say most of the drivers were very nice about letting me finish up if I only had 10-15 more minutes of work to do or less.

I like to be home every night and love my weekends off, that's why i stick to my foodservice delivery job. But if I were to go after an OTR job, Wal-Mart seems like the place to go.
