    They gotcha with just the fact you are a trucker and it makes it look more like your fault in a court of law if you are involved in a deadly wreck. A guy driving in CA not long ago was convicted of manslaughter, he came off the exit ramp onto the road and hit a vehicle, I think T-boned it and killed the occupants. They reviewed his logs for rest periods, etc.

    as long as all the legal rest periods are taken it isnt a problem
    on elogs there is no discrepancy

    You can run recaps basically forever and never have 34 hours off consecutively and still be legal to drive for however many of your 70 was left on the current(8th) day. You might have 24 or even 32 off and it still wouldn't be a reset. It would be a day off .


    No crime has been committed and running around a reset can be a huge annoyance as my last weekend proved, and I didn't need to take the reset anyway because I got a day off not being back in time to take the next load due to the reset, and by then I would have had recap hours available again. It's just something to use to get hours back when necessary or a planned break for guys working and expecting a weekend more or less at home or a place of their choosing.

    I have found that most times, it is better to work off of the recap unless you would be waiting over a day to get enough hours back to matter, and that does happen.

    Other than that, a reset gives a new starting point and makes recapping unnecessary mostly for both the driver and the LEO.

    They got him on manslaughter because he ran some people over. You don't get charged manslaughter for recapping. Even if he had a fresh 70 after 34 hours off and ran those people over he would still be charged with manslaughter. They're not going to say "Oh you're well rested then, carry on driver...."

    anyway,ive been at it 24 years and i still cant figure out one logical reason to ,need to be,limited to 70hrs in 8 days. what moron comes up with this sh[t?you can work as many hrs as you want in any other proffesion(saftey oriented or not)without any of the b.s.as long as you have 10 hrs off every day(after your 14)thats all that should matter.so if i wanted to work 100hrs in 10 days then take off a cpl of days,i should be able to do it.whats that you say???oh yeah BIG BROTHER.gotta love them BULLIES we call D.O.T.

    i don't screw around. i use up my hours and take a reset every weekend.

    but yeah, i think 80 hours would be more sufficient. 70 just isn't enough time to keep the wheels spinning.

    i'd even settle for 75.
