bayou hot shot i think ul be back in your own truck in 6months.reason i say that is because the freedom and independence of having your own.yes some cant make it in certain areas of trucking for different reasons,whether it may be bills at home,the kind of lifestyle theyre living ect or possibly cheap rates but gng back to company driver,the thought of it make me wanna throw up,id rather deal wit the taxes ,breakdowns, bs wit brokers & or lease my rig on to a company before i did that because a oo are jus set in their ways, unless i jus didnt hv any other options,jus my 2cents

 

I personally would not give up my authority to lease on to a carrier...I just don't see the advantage to it...I know Malone would allow you to use brokers (but you still give up 25%) I just don't see an advantage to it when you can just carry LS, Mercer, CH, TQL, any body you want to. Say Mercer is weak in TX, but LS booms in that area...why would you limit yourself when you allready have the tools to make it work?

 

And if it's only to get a trailer I think that is a huge error...you can trade your step for at least a nice down payment on a flat no problem.

 

i have every load board pulled up at the same time soon as i see a new load im on the phone and im not joking i cant find chet

 

I was looking at leasing to a company also. I asked to be able to see their load board to decide if it would be worthwhile and got no response after they was ready to get me leased. The one thing I did notice was this company had several mandatory deductions from your pay like accident ins., bobtail ins. and performance bond. time I estimated the amounts it was around 2,000 a year, not to mention the 25% they take off top of each load. I really don't think anyone has much good paying freight right now.
And the people to blame is US cause we haul it for cheap rates or some of us do. I generally bounce if the rate isn't what I want. I had a access rep. tell me it sounded like I didn't want to make money when I asked him did people really take freight for less than 1.25 a mile. Told a LS agent I bet they was a line waiting on his 1.74 @ mile load needing 6ft. tarps. Last week I asked a broker where he found the drivers to haul his cheap freight out of Fl., sitting under the stupid tree all hovered up. Glad my stuff is paid for. I'm just waiting on the new bunch of MC#'s to go out of business.

 

Are you trying to stay local and be home a couple nights a week? May need to change your strategy a bit. One of my new bedders is running from the North to TX then back North at over $2. Still think that is a bit cheap but he is just getting back into it and the money works for him. I would get to OH as fast as possible and run the mid-west for a couple weeks then go home. The handful of times I went that way I would come back to IL MT or take OS load too cheap.

 

I stay out two weeks at a time or more if I'm staying busy and not at the truck stop 3 days a week I'm looking right now 250 miles out of Beaumont and everything I call on is $1.00 a mile it's just making me sick looking at all this and it's not just me 3 people are looking for me loads and no luck I'll take $1.50 a mile just to get out of here

 

Im not sure about this area for step-deck....sometimes you gotta bump a dock....and you really gotta be able to carry more than 43,000...but it would be better than that mess of an area

 

I told a broker today I'll pull a box for $1.70 a mile not my step

 

Hey Ya'll, newbie here.....my hubs is looking to sign on with Mercer, we are around Fayetteville, NC....is this a good lane for flats? Could he do decent running the East Seaboard?
