    JpatP,

WOW, thx for the speedy responce, and fabulous info. I was going to hitch up the wagon an head south, but thought it might be better to get something going 1st. I can always go back to my Class "B" job here in Nv., but not happy with 50k/yr.

You have given me so great hope. Any chance you could hook me up with your contact? Do they have any more room for a 56yo newbie?

Oh, also with the potential to make 100k/yr. I would be on the road tomorrow!

There is a obvious reason for this difference in pay which one might consider.

All Uniforms Paid for and issued free year round including Timberland Boots, and Equipment like Hammers, High Quality Gloves, Safety Glasses, Clear and Shaded. I don't know about anyone else jobs but we get paid to rest. I'm curious as to how much they did offer you down there as I have considered transferring down there.

Hey Seattle206! - I 've been looking at halliburton when I leave my current job here in Afghanistan. Could you tell me about the Cement pump driver position? They have SO DA_N MANY! Do you know why? Just curious thats all. Also; do you know what the starting wage is for those guys, per hour? I pull a tanker here and work 80+ hours a week, so the hours arent an issue. However, if the pay is weak then I may have to reconsider.

Whats the typical day like, and is it easy to get to supervision?

    Thank-you!

    Hello everyone,
Just was wanting to know what kind of hours are you currently working per week ?
Do company's assist you with housing ?
What kind of time off do you receive?

I do enjoy my job working overseas but after 4 years just ready to be home or at least stateside for a while. I have been offered a job in North Dakota and Texas and just trying to make a final call on what direction I'm heading into.

Thanks for any help you can provide ,

    Pilot1,

For most jobs at Halliburton, actually driving a truck is incidental.

If your going to work in the oil fields, and are able to get a hazmat, you are wasting your time not hauling crude. For those who dont know, the oil field has two sides, Exploration and Production. Exploration comes and goes with booms and busts ie. Water haulers, Rig movers, Sand Haulers, Dirt Haulers ect. Crude Oil comes out the well 365 a year and has to be transported to market by truck, period. I got started on crude from a man who has been at since 1983 and never gone hungry. If your looking for a consistent good paying reliable job that is easy as hell, haul crude oil. You can make more $$$ doing other things with a CDL in the oil fields but you may not have a job for the long term that you lose due to circumstances beyond your control.

    :)

I see them putting in tanks and pipe out west of Houston. They have been laying pipelines like the power company strings wire. I wonder how long till the pipelines are all the way out to the fields?

    JahB,

I am new as of 1 week. I have no exp. with my CDL. Have a couple of potential jobs. They say starting wage is $17.00 and $18.00/hour. Is this the norm? The 2 companies are big and old companies. I guess I thought it would be more.

How did your hunt go? My family and I are planning a move to north Texas in May 2013. I can get work in the oil fields with no problem. I am now cyphering through the possibilities of employment.

    What have you learned?

You are correct. A load of people from California have moved to the west Texas/NM region. All kinds of jobs have been taken already. California is averaging 305 people per day leaving the state for opportunity. I used to work in Houston, TX. I am moving elsewhere when I find something better. Here in Florida, we are losing about 180 people per day....
