Well i am new here to the forum. I have some stories of my dad trucking. My dad starting trucking in late 70s, went by the handle Undertaker from Ladrum South Carolina. He owned a sawmill , and used trucks to haul poplar block and etc. He also had trucks leased to some companies(can not remember many of them) . One was Suttles trucking (James Suttles) He started out with a GMC astro, with a 318 dual straight pipes. Then after using it for a year or two he bought a brand new 1979 Kenworth w900, red 3 foot sleeper, 440 detroit (8v92 silver) 15 speed. My uncle also run the road, Redheaded stranger, started out with a Freightliner hood nicknamed the Dixie Queen. Then after the freigtliner he built a Kenworth ant-eater with a detroit. My dad and brother always had fast trucks, having the pumps tweaked and "jig timing the trucks. My dad got 3 speeding tickets in the 79 kenworth . He said you had to be running about 76 to throw it in the last gear. I also have a bunch of friends who run trucks then and now. Some of you may know them if anybodys from my area , Bill Cash from Campobello SC, Ken White from Gramling SC, Jerry Gosnell Travlers Rest SC (had a b 61 mack that would fly!)
My dad told me stories of going to New York city and having a police escort, running long hours, legends of the road and more. I will find some pics of my dads old KW , and friends trucks.
