So far still home. I called in a few hours ago, and dispatcher told me that another driver left the yard headed for Atchison, however had to shutdown only 30 miles down the road due to "near white-out conditions". I told him that my driveway is very drifted, 4' drift the entire length, and so far managed to get a small area shoveled so I could get my garage door open. I also informed him that I had one time before shoveled my drive out by hand, and it took 14 hrs. His reply, "Well get it shoveled out, get it cleared out so you can get going when they get the roads cleared". I told him I would when the guy gets here to clear it with a tractor.

I'm waiting to see if they try to threaten my job because I don't get it cleared out by the time they say. I may end up unemployed.

Thanks Rocks. I keep telling myself it's done, but then I have days like the last couple. The coughing seems to have gone away for the most part, but my ribs have become very tender. Nothing pulled, but very sore. I can't lay on my sides, too much pain. I'm just waiting see if it passes. I thought maybe it has something to do with the weather. You take care out there. I worry about you getting too cold during your sleep time and not being well rested. I hope you're feeling much better.

The subject of whether you can lose your job because of being unable to make it to work during bad weather was on the news last night. According to the lawyer they spoke with, employers can fire you without any legal ramifications. I'm so thankful to have a boss who puts our safety first. I'm not talking just about those of us in the office, either. He stands beside his drivers if they deem the conditions unsafe to continue; he will tell them to shut down as soon as possible when they feel it's time.

I hope you don't lose your job over this, Eaton. You do seem to enjoy it, and I certainly wouldn't want to be out shoveling your drive.

On the dock in the cooler at UniCool Yuma Az. It's chilly in here but nice and sunny outside. Was told the order wouldn't be ready for at least 4 hours then got the call to the dock about 10 minutes after checking in! Can't complain about that!

Neighbor from across the section arrived at around 3pm and got my driveway cleared. I called in to dispatch to let him know, and he told me he had sent me a message/left a voice mail. This was on my cellphone. I've told him several times, I don't leave my cellphone on at home, because my service is non-existent. He then asked if I took my phone outside would I get the messages or be able to get my voicemail. Again I told him that the service stinks in this area, but once I was able to get service I would eventually get them. All that, then he gives me my assignment for tomorrow.

I did manage to get the concrete pad in front of the garage and about 4 ft beyond that shoveled before the neighbor arrived. So how many would have manually shoveled all this?

I would like to buy an old tractor with a blade or bucket, or skidsteer, but justifying the cost for something I'd use maybe once or twice every 3 yrs is hard to do. Minimum cost would be around $3k. I pay the neighbor $50 each time. Total I've paid him over the last 5 yrs is only $200.

    My goodness, Eaton, that's not a driveway, that's a city block :biggrin_25525:

One major thing I've been looking at with the houses we are interested in. The hubby has no business out trying to take care of a large yard or shoveling snow from a driveway. I want something with a small yard, and a drive large enough to park my car in (when it's not in the garage). I've also been thinking a lot about the pros and cons of buying vs renting. Should we sell our house and buy another, what if something happens to my job and we would have an opportunity to relocate? We're stuck with another house to sell. Plus we're responsible for everything, whereas if we rent, someone else has to foot the bill when something needs replaced.

You be safe on the way to work, as I intend to be. They aren't going to do our parking lot until tomorrow, so we have to park at the front of the building and walk the mile through the warehouse to get to our office. I've only had to do it once, and I had to have security walk me back, then come back and get me when I was ready to leave. I could get lost in there and never be found.
