Hello, I've been wondering for sometime just what information these cameras can get as you drive under or past them. Obviously plates etc can be photographed along with DOT numbers etc but just what happens to that information. Is it just looked at by the scale personel or automatically entered into a number recognition program or database? Is this information stored and then cross checked if you fast cycle a scale or what? I don't have PrePass. lets just say if a guy pushed a log a little could it be flagged via a database? I realize if a level 1 or more would result in this info being entered to a database then, but what about just driving thru? Thanks

I have heard that Washington state does that, will photograph/film your truck and time it to the next one and determine if the 11, or 14 hour clocks might have been violated.

They can use softwear developed by the Feds to read DOT numbers and w/ weight sensors in the road they target overweight trucks.

I just read a news blurg from NY they are planning to set up 4 and have included the sensors in recient roadway rebuilds near the newburgh bridge on I-84, NY Thruway & I-84 & by the rest area on I-84 where they do inspections.

The 4th area will be the Alexander Hamilton bridge on I-95. The softwear is supposed to let the road tropers concentrate on the trucks that are runing heavy, etc.

More shades of Big Brother; the Port Authority of NY & NJ has decided to replace their emissions registration decal program w/ one that issues a RFID tag to each truck doing business in the port!

They are getting more and more technical so don't be surprised if they will use this in the future for all scales and toll booths. RFID chips are going to be the way they track everyone, it is being used in the one school in Texas already, kids wear a tag and it is supposed to be just for school now but??; mark of the beast for the future.

I guess facial recognition software will also be a deal also, means companies will have to have the trucker entered into a data base that can be checked by computer as you go through a scale, etc.

I bet in less then 10 yrs most of this will be in place.

I have been one that has been in support of using the pre pass type system for tracking and logging truck movement. It would significantly cheaper than EOBRs and very easy to manage. And could be implemented much quicker. Don't even need the in ground scale they use at weigh stations. One self contained unit that is charged by solar, cellular communication and could be installed on a pole in under an hour.

I have had on Colorado DOT officer show me a screen of the Pre pass system, it shows when you trip the sensors and shows everything about you to the DOT officer.
