Have no clue but I do occasionally see some of those boys breathing heavy. I think it depends on the load because some of my bills say floor (meaning no pallets)
-
That's right. It's a decision made by the terminal and district manager. They are known to give someone a chance and bend some rules if the interview goes well. Some ltl companies are family owned.
-
As far as UPSF it is mostly pallet. There is some stuff double stacked and they use the racks as well.
-
If my ltl carrier makes me work the dock, I'll be going back on the road. I got my class A for a reason, I was sick of working on the dock!
rodknocker, ACH1130 and Marky84 Thank this. -
They tried that in the last contract negotiations.
Now with all the Nons doing it and their use of purchased trucks for linehaul can u see the writing on the wall
And the race to the bottom continues ! -
I agree a 100%. I will find another job, didnt spend all this time and money for my CDL just to be a dock worker with a little bit of driving
-
They usually don't make us work the docks unless there is nobody there to add/remove freight from my trailer(s). I might do about 2 hours of dockwork/month tops. Mostly pallets that can be moved with a forklift. Every now and then I will get some awkward bundle of pipes or something.

I haven't been able to find out much about the new contract if there is any at all, I mean there was supposed to be a July 1st deadline if I am not mistaken. I think ABF got like a 6.5% pay cut and some benefits cut, but I was wondering if YRC ever got any of that 15% back. Could you tell me what happened?

You can do the math. What's union driving wage? .65 cents a mile? (on the low end) They get $46 to hook pups (might be more these days) What's union hourly wage? $28 an hour? + time point five after eight. They get about an hours pay to fuel the truck. They get paid every hour after the mandatory 10 hour break while they get drunk at the lounge at the motel. They get extra pay for pulling doubles, two lane highways, breakdowns, etc. They get a pension for free, they get free benefits, probably getting $20 for this new 30 minute break thing.
