I do not know any facts about this case ,BUT i really find it hard to believe any teenager types half a text and then sits their phone down with out finishing the text and hitting send.

First, Walker rd is a gravel rd with only a few farms. It is unlikely that anyone else crossed the intersection while the road crew was there.
Not a City crew a Highway crew that normally works past 5. Witnesses at the scene who I know personally said the HP made them leave.
Her father, who is a friend, said she typed the partial text while standing in the driveway, put the phone in the passenger seat when she got in the car and that's where HP found the phone with the same unfinished text on it. Those who knew this girl have no doubt she was not texting. I understand there is an aggressive campaign to stop teens from texting while driving and this was an opportunity for the HP to get that message out even though it was false.
I did not say he was speeding either. From the distance the truck traveled after impact and the fact he started from a dead stop at 71 hwy it is unusual (aggressive) to get up to speed in such a short distance and stay at speed while passing the road crew. Maybe not exceeding the speed limit, but not particularly cautious either. Putting myself in the drivers seat he was probably checking his left mirror as he changed to the left lane to go around the road crew as Savanna pulled out. Could've happened to me.
What I am saying is what I know. I live a mile from the scene and was there after the accident. I've known the family well for 10+ years. My wife is a nurse at the local hospital and knows the HP and paramedics well. My son was in Savanna's class.
Again, I am not saying it is the truckers fault. I am saying the report is false because she was not texting. I am saying that to be at speed in that distance seems a little aggressive to me. I am saying that the obstruction from the road crew added to the dangerous circumstances and without all these circumstances she might still be alive and the driver would not have to live with the memory of the fatal crash.
Flood, you're certainly entitled to your opinion, you know what they say about opinions. -
you ever think they made them leave because with the crash and the crew working had the road was blocked....?
and how do you or her father know it was the same massage.......?? did her father see the massage BEFORE she got in the car....?
short distance.....?????? google maps show it to be 1.1 miles from the off ramp to walker rd...!! that's not a short distance, and just about any truck (not heavy haul) should be up to speed (55) well before then...so by your own words he did move for the road crew as the law requires for safety.....
and that is YOUR opinion -
A girl died.
A trucker has to deal with the result of what the 4 wheeler did.
Whether texting or not, she made the cause of life change to herself, family and the truck driver.
I say, why not call this quits and let it go?48Packard, truckon, Giggles the Original and 1 other person Thank this. -

Wasn't blocked, but it posed an obvious danger.
and how do you or her father know it was the same massage.......?? did her father see the massage BEFORE she got in the car....? Yes he did.

It's actually .8 miles from where the road divides and at that point the speed limit is 65. With the road crew working the right lane I would have been going slower.
so by your own words he did move for the road crew as the law requires for safety.....
Yea, if he hadn't he would have hit them.
Flood you seem to have a very defensive attitude because you think I am blaming the truck driver. I am not. I am simply stating that she was not texting and that there were other circumstances that contributed to the accident. That's all. I'm not here to argue with you. I learned long ago, never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. so I am done with you sir. good day. -
FTB 530 : "I do not know any facts about this case ,BUT i really find it hard to believe any teenager types half a text and then sits their phone down with out finishing the text and hitting send."
she started the text standing in the front yard with her Dad and others, the text was to another family member about items to be picked up at the store for the dinner they had planned, when she decided to go get the items herself she stopped the text threw the phone in the seat. -
(Sound of a dead horse being beaten.)
On a side note, a B.R.A.K.E.S. last weekend, we had to use a Charlotte Motor Speedway pumper truck as both water trucks were buried in mud at the dirt track. As we came away from the skid pad the last time, we came up beside a car on the distraction course, teen was texting going through the course, full lights, siren and horn blowing and the teen didn't even look up. in a real life situation, the car would of struck the fire truck. Young drivers need to be alert to everything around them, older drivers too. -
if the school even has drivers ed to offer they dropped that program here several years ago due to budget cuts and rising insurance costs for liability.

I appreciate you putting in your perspective. But put yourself in a position from a regular person browsing through national news articles. We already established that the girl failed to yield when she was struck. It is also factual that it was her first day out by herself. Then it states that the police recovered a mobile in the passenger seat that had a half written text that was "lenghty" but unsent. How else should anyone look at it? Maybe you do know something we don't. And maybe the media has gotten it wrong. My condolences to the family though.

i am because you in a back handed way are saying he was going to fast form YOUR post #76from YOUR post #82again google maps shows it OVER ONE MILE from the last point he would have had to stop to the point of the crash not the 1/4 mile you said, he moved over as required for the safety of the road crew AND the HP didn't say the trucks speed had anything to do with it BUT you had to keep pointing out he was going fast so yes you are making it sound like you are blaming the truck.....!unless you were in the car you DON"T KNOW THATI will also point out that YOU are the one that had to sank to name calling..... the sign of a weak mind the can't defend his own words in the light of facts......
fact..... the truck wasn't speeding or doing anything wrong
fact..... you DON"T have a clue what was going on in the car at the time unless you were IN the car at the time
fact..... she pulled out in front of a truck
fact..... she died..... that is the sad part of all thisLast edited: Jul 8, 2013
