As a potential new driver for USA, what should I expect as far as driver comfort when in the sleeper trying to get some rest while in hot weather? Obviously, if a tractor cab is my home for weeks at a time, these are important considerations.
-Is the fleet equipped with APU's, or if not, is their a decent idle policy?
-How are the sleeper bunks for size? I am a big man at 6'6" and 290 lbs. I can put up with a lot of headaches and baloney from people and circumstances beyond my control that truckers face, but I need to be able to rest half way comfortably or I will not be a happy camper.
-What is the policy for inverters?
Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

I work for Swift no APUs but I run mg truck when I want, I am a company driver there is a idle policy but I never have heard 1 world about my idle time anything over 74 idle I work nights only qnd sleep during day my DM knows this maybe thats why ai get a pass?????
If its sunny and 74 it gets HOT fast you wouldnt think so but that sun beats down on sleeper and I will be hot and I gotta get my sleep so I run my truck I dont really care my sleep is for my safety.
I have heard storys of other drivers being wrote up but not me I dont know the actual policy but might depend on your DM I got a good oneDocWatson Thanks this. -
He wants to know about USA not swift. I have heard from a friend of mine that he was forced to leave because they were strict on idle.

So its against the law to leave your dog or kid in a vehicle but its OK to leave a USA driver?
Puppage, Hardlyevr, Arkansas Frost and 3 others Thank this. -
Ya thatshow it is I idle regardless signs say no idle or not from what I was told as long as you have a clean air sticker on your truck they cant give u a tickrt Ive never had no issues so I cant say this is true or not

The philosophy of the no idle law as it applies to CMV's is as follows. You can idle with a child/Pet in the vehicle because they haven't the mental capacity to get out when it's hot, because they were told to stay put.
But you as a driver are suppose to be smart enough to seek cooler surroundings for your required rest break. Like you know, get a hammock and swing it under your trailer, when you take your 10 hour break in BLYTHE, CA. during the day in the middle of August. See, you will be cool because you can swing and cause a breeze.DocWatson, russellkanning and str8rida Thank this. -
I was in orientation for knight, and they have a very strict idle policy, so strict that if you violate the over 10% threshold, your max allowed speed is reduced 2 mph, if you violate it again, it is reduced another 2mph....Even worse than swift, some Knight trucks are at 61mph. More hand holding and micro management and a decrease in driver retention.
Just another example of incompetence among the executives that run these companies (like knight) that have no (expletive) idea what its like on the road. 110 degrees out? why isn't your truck on? because of the idle policy. -
Are there any USA Truck drivers that can chime in on this issue and my other questions? I appreciate all responses, but I really would like to hear about USA Trucks policies.

That's a darn good point right there.

The truck I drove back in 2011 had an APU. When the main power plant was shut off the APU took over climate control. It also kept batteries charged, and main engine warm. It did more than just take care of me. There was also a massive inverter under the bunk. It had 120 volt outlets in it just like your house. It did rather well after I got them to replace the alternator on it.
