I was in the schneider yard in Port Wentworth, and this AAA guy pulls up in what looks like a 1980s volvo. I thought he might be driving it because he likes it, and so I say "What year is that beast?!" Well, he says "1920, its a giant piece of ####".
So he spouts off about how all CEOs go to the same schools and learn to be crooks at Yale/Harvard, whatever...
and he tells me "Ive been with them 19 years. 19 years and they give me this thing".
He didnt say anything about leaving, but he was not a happy camper. Maybe his attitude was getting him in trouble, but you dont give an employee of 19 years a truck like that unless he is not doing his job. But if hes still showing up and doing good work, like this guy was.... no reason for that BS.

Not just yet, though I may be planning on it

P&D definitely has it's perks, but at SEFL, you WILL work 10-12 hours a day. Seems most start times are 9:30 (at least around here), so don't plan on getting off til 7-8 in the evening. And the Freightliner city tractors are extremely bumpy and underpowered. The Internationals aren't too bad, and the newest Freightliners have plenty of power. If you're lucky, you'll get to use a line driver's ProStar or Volvo. Just remember it's HIS tractor, and keep it clean, etc. It's hard work, but I found it to be very rewarding, especially once I learned my route and built rapport with customers.

He wants to be just like the super trucker LOL
P/D is good, will keep you in shape, a lot of backing into docks, sometimes inside deliveries with no elevators, big stuff, life gate stuff etc. I did P/D for over a year at YRC. Just like fastSVT said expect to work long days. Heck there were times I was putting my full 14 in and I had an 8am start time. Then when I was on layoff I transferred to my current terminal and got into Line-haul which in my case I like better, like working nights better, dont have to deal with people and city traffic all day(unless I take my day bid back which wont happen then Ill be stuck in traffic all day.) IF you want to be home nights and weekends then P/D is for you. My current bid is a 8pm start time mon-fri(dont ask with only 6 months senority how I got it). Yea I lose my friday night but its whatever, at least I dont have to live by the phone anymore. Wish it were sun-thurs but the only bids are the shaping bid which you still live by the phone... Oh well gotta take the good with the badDrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
Our oldest peddle truck at YRC in my old terminal was a 2000. Normally the peddle units are the old road units that been downgraded. Mine was a 02, ran very well with over 1.5 million on it, but then again I dont now if the engine been rebuilt or not, they do convert them from 10spds to 6spds. All trucks had A/C in them. Now our crappola straight trucks were ancient, things always breaking down left and right yet they just keep rebuilding. They wait for them to really break before repairs, old boss thought the were to precious... All we needed were a few lift gate pupsDrtyDiesel Thanks this.

I'm looking forward to going to SEFL when I move to Tennessee. Looking forward to moving to Tennessee too!

Welcome! When will you be officially on board?

Sadly not for a few more years. SEFL is just where I want to go when we eventually move to Tennessee. I heard they are a really good company. Sounds like you like it there.
