Don't take this the wrong way, but if you have to ask, there's no way anyone could explain it to you without putting you in the seat and teaching you. There's more to it than putting the bed up and driving off, just on the driving side of it, let alone the business side. I've been driving for ten years, been an O/O for half that, and pulled a dump trailer for three years before going O/O, and I wouldn't even think about buying a dump truck and hitting the ground cold.
Go read this thread. If you still have questions, ask at that point.
What's a good 1 man truck business for a noobie? I'm going to get my CDL.

seriously, how much research did you actually put into this, the time it took you to make your original post???
let me put it this way, I would like to be a lawyer, I am going to buy a couple of legal books and set up an office, and try cases in the supreme court by next week.
you see, that's really just about what you posted.Tonythetruckerdude and josh.c Thank this. -
So whats your rate for LAWYERING
-
thanks. I had no idea you could get driving time this way.
-
Could do this, start a meals on wheels to feed the hungry truck divers being turned out by these CDL mills......
-
Meals on wheels are against the law where I live. Plus too many restaurants to compete with.

Let's talk about the dump truck biz for a second. You stated that it should be simple to learn the controls, right ? Well, yeah, but there's a lot more. Like knowing how to approach the load site/quarry/dump site. Then there's knowing how much weight you can load. The difference between hourly/tonnage/by the load etc.
-
Yep, once you "read" the dump site wrong...well I sure hope you like those rides at the fair that turn you up-side down and side-ways......

$5000 down on a BOX TRUCK!?????
You can get most trucks from Lone Mountain for that much!
But really, nobody should be trucking without wasting the time of some corporation to learn the ropes first...
And anybody who wants to make money, stick to brokers. I got the honor of dealing with brokers while working for Werner, they would give me the numbers and everything... and you can bet I yelled at them like a dog who crapped on the floor! Brokers are not like dispatchers, if you yell at them... You make more! AHAHAHHA. Really! I was a company driver and I would still yell at them about detention pay and stuff! HAHAHAHA I even had a manager call me to beg me to deliver once AHAHAHA, Im laughing so much because I get paid my the mile, and Im yelling at these people and they dont even know Im a company driver and I dont pocket any of the money! AHAHAHHAHA
What a bunch of ####### brokers can be hahahahaha. I dont think some of them can count to 14.... they would have to take off their shoes, because they ran out of fingers to count on! HAHAHAHA.
Pretty much, find a broker and dont be afraid to chew them out!
