Actually, I didn't mean to make a reference to frog and thomas. I was actually refering to the comments made by falcon and retiredsarge. My apologies.

Just to put my two cents in...I am new to the trucking business, having retired from the Army two months ago after more than 20 years. I chose USA Trucking because I talked to some truckers and also read the posts on this forum. Everyone here has treated me well, and no one has lied, told, or promised me something that they did not deliver. Since I am a student in Atlanta, I have to wait for a trainer. From what I am hearing, USA is really hurting for trainers right now, and there is about a two week wait for a trainer here. I am still getting paid my $400 a week while I am waiting for a trainer. Free hotel room, food, and getting paid (though not much, but as a student I absolutely cannot complain).

In my orientation class we started with 19 people, but after the physical, that number fell to 15, mostly because of high blood pressure or heart murmer, or something like that. Then 4 people were let go after the interview. I'm not sure why - perhaps they were not honest on their application. About 26 years ago - long before my military service - I was convicted of possession with controlled substance. I was honest on my application and during the interview the lady interviewing me asked me about it and said that because I was honest, that it was not a problem. Out of the 11 drivers left, I was the only student. The other ten were experienced and got truck assignments on the final day of orientation.

Like I said, this is my first adventure in the trucking industry, and other than having to wait for two weeks for a trainer, I am very pleased with my decision to go with USA Truck and not the other companies who called me (Werner, Covenant, PTL, and McElroy.)

USA is obviously hurting for trainers. They just called me again about a week ago for the 4th time and I quickly declined the offer once again. You will probably be waiting a while.

Still don't know why I do it. (Training) Pay sucks, training program getting worse. Truck too small for two. I must like torture I guess. Don't think I'll be training much longer, keep hoping things go back to being good or at least acceptable. But don't see it happening soon.

USA is a good company to work for. You do what's expected and things usually work out pretty good. Not perfect. There are a couple of DMs that should be replaced, but are still here. As long as they aren't mine and I don't have to deal with them any longer that's not a problem.
You get and keep your truck maintained and it shouldn't give you too much problem. I've been running w/o ac for the last 2-3 wks but that's not a necessity either. You just deal with it and keep making the money. When I get home this weekend, ill drop the truck off at the dealer and it will be fixed while I enjoy hometime. No loss of income there.
Hang in there, get through your training and things will work out well. Good Luck.

I finally called them back after they left me 4 voicemails on 4 consecutive weeks.Figured they would get the hint I wasn't interested when I didn't return their calls for a month now.I told them I wasn't interested because there really is no one on this earth I trust to drive me around including my wife lol

    DGStrong71 Thanks this.

boy oh boy can I relate with you seeing those "disgruntled" drivers! As soon as I went solo at USA, that is ALL I EVER had around me, from USA! Just turned me into a "disgruntled" driver, there, as well! hehe Glad you're not running into ALL of them at once, like I did, with my experience there!
