They trick them into it.
-
lost me...what does that mean?? -
Just as you wouldn't take a Freightliner for a truck, you wouldn't take a job driving a truck for Werner.Giggles the Original Thanks this.
-
ok gotcha...thought i was gonna have to break out the wooden spoon for a minute....
and yep..you are right...

People seem to be obsessed with Werner, I see people freak out so often... over almost nothing. Like my last student quit because his dispatcher would have him wait 8 hours for a load sometimes. Not like he can just pull loads out of his ###, or hold a gun to a shippers head and make them give freight. Does he get his 50-70 hours a week or not?
According to companies that evaluate salaries, Werner has the highest average pay of any of the large companies that hire new students, about $38,000... $730 a week. A hell of a lot of CR England, Swift, US Xpress, Covenant, driver would love to get paid that much, because some of those companies have average pay that isnt even close. Like CR England pays $28,000 average pay... that means HALF their drivers make less than that.
Werner also has a higher CSA score than all the other companies that hire new drivers, except Scheider. All the large companies that hire new drivers, Beside Werner and Schneider... are being sanctioned by the DOT. That means they get pulled in at every scale... and they get inspected MUCH more often.
If you dont believe me, you are welcome to do this thing called "Research" and stop driving students to companies that are in the bottom 25% of safe companies. Werner is AVERAGE, which means half of all companies are worse. So, why the hell would someone tell them to go with a bottom of the bucket company instead of an average one?
Better yet, instead of bashing Werner, how about naming some companies that are better, like I often do. Prime and Crete are much better, but they are also much harder to get into... Prime pays the highest student pay I have seen, while Crete has the highest average pay and the most stable pay in the industry...
You can do a lot worse than Werner... since half the entire industry has worse safety and pay. Would you rather some new driver go to CR England and get burned out, taken advantage of, or possibly killed? Werners is safer than 58% of companies, but CR England, USX, Covenant and Swift are all more UNsafe than 75% of companies...
Werner isnt anywhere close to the worst company out there...
The truth is, because they hire ANYBODY... we get a lot of crazies. I have seen two students get arrested, and was given a job dealing with problem students... accusing trainers of VOODOO, people who had other people take their CDL test for them an had zero knowledge of the tests or any knowledge of the truck... just crazy people. And of course they all blame Werner.
I had an awful dispatcher on my first account, I worked masterbrand... but Werner was great about it. I complained about an OSHA violation because the dispatcher wouldnt pay for a hand cart, and Werner had a department talk to me about it and get me on an account I got along with...
I have jumped account to account, and never had an issue with any other dispatcher. Really..., I got bored or was asked to help out, and the rest of the accounts went fine. I didnt like slaughter houses, so I got off the Texas TCU account... with no problem.
Like I have said several times, I have had students get offered great accounts like Home Depot and 3M... and they refused to get their hazmat... and blamed Werner. How can you blame a company for offering you exactly what you wanted, if you would take THEIR money and go take the test?
The only reason I left Werner was because I had a family emergency, and had a practically retarded student who starved me of sleep. I decided I couldn't stay on the road and deal with idiots at the same time.
Nothing to do with the company at all, just morons who come and cause problem... and blame Werner. Funny, how these people also have all sorts of life problems and blame everyone else... -
Wow - Pete makes a good truck, but aren't we in this industry to make money? They are definitely not the clear choice when it comes to Total Cost of Ownership. THey get beat in Fuel Economy, Resale, Downtime, Service Availability, etc. I like to maximize my profits.
-
The way you put it, it sounds like nobody would ever want to buy one. But, if you asked anyone what's the top of the line truck, anyone who knows anything about trucks will say Peterbilt.
You might be correct in fuel economy. But they also offer aerodynamic options. Those that buy a hood are ok with spending a little extra on fuel. In their minds, the difference in fuel is worth it.
Resale you are dead wrong. A Peterbilt taken care of will always be worth more than any other brand (save KW) even if that brand truck was taken care of. They are just better built trucks. You would understand this if you ever drove one, then you could attest to the feeling of "driving a brick in the wind".
Downtime is largely based on what engine you bought. It doesn't matter which truck it is in. Downtime from other things things like broken air bags, etc, are less likely to happen on a Peterbilt because you paid more for higher quality parts. This might be changing, but I have heard from older drivers that you can walk around a pete and point out all the higher quality parts.
Service availability just about the same as any other. Can you post some numbers on dealer networks for Paccar products versus FL, INTL, Volvo/Mack? As long as you have access to them in your area, you should be good for any brand. It will do be no good if they have 500 dealerships in Cali if I never go there anyway.
Your post tells me you are not being paid enough for whatever sector you are working in. -
funny wih my "wannbe" status I can say that I have driven a cab over. thought it was fun actually but man things get "close" I have thought about buying an older truck to restore and tinker with. I always look at cab overs well except for one needle nose KW that had my attn for a bit.
-
What's s needle nose,kw,is it t 660 or t 680, for My eyes,I choose t660, it look better than t680.
