Just wondering if CRST Trucks are all standard? I'm going into trucking school with them soon. I do know how to drive a standard i just owned 1 vehicle that was one but didn't really enjoy it. If so i wont complain whatever i end up in will be fine with me.

I don't want to rain on your parade but your about to start a trucking career with one of the worst starter companies to work for. If CRST is the only company that will take you, then stay accident clean for a year and move on to better things. But if you have options, you need to read in the bad trucking company section.

When and where are you starting your training? I start my CDL training this Monday with them in Houston.

Why do you say they are the worst starter company? I have read through the forum and they don't seem any better or worse than all the others. I really would like to know why you think they are the worst since I am starting Monday with them.

    Thank you.

The equipment and the training facilities set them apart. Do you know you will be teaming with another newbie after training? Hopefully he won't run off an overpass while you are sleeping or have some strange mental disorder. :biggrin_25524:

They paint their trucks gold in hopes of hiding all the dirt on them. They also have a patent on gold colored duct tape to repair all the body damage. They had to cut the trucks speed back to 62 mph so the tape don't fly off. :)

I leave for Cedar Rapids, Iowa on the 23rd of this month. And I do not know when training actually starts. It's going to take a couple days for me to get there since i am taking a bus there.

Lol I do not plan on staying with some forever. I'm going to bust my butt to get my CDL, Drive for about 8 months to a year then move on to big and better things. I've done my research and i know what everybody is saying but i'm going to tough it out and do what i need to do.

Yep that's the plan. Use them for training and experience and move on to greener pastures. Things can only get better from there, lol.

I talked to a guy that has been with CRST for about 8 months. He said they started him at 22 CPM. He is now up to 29 if I remember right. He said he hated it cause the pay sucks yet they keep him out for at least five weeks at a time. His truck had some major mechanical issues and he was stranded for 4 days while the local mechanic worked on his truck. He was making a whooping $47/day for break-down pay while being stuck 800 miles away from home. My carrier pays us $16/hour if we break down. At least he got his own company paid hotel room. I heard CR England has it worse though.

Edit: I went through a private CDL school. I know it seems out of reach for some people, but I actually had a classmate that got his training paid for in full by the Job Corps. Not sure if that is an option for you, but I would try to explore as many routes as possible. I would stay away from company sponsored training if you can help it. I heard some people are obligated to work there for up to six months after graduating.

83% is their score in the "unsafe driving" category>absolutely horrendous! Talk about driving around with a law enforcement target on you!
