Trying to stay at the money I was making if not better is hard. I have a few job offers will have do the drivers refresher thing which I understand. Just wanted to know are we still dealing with the idiots out there any big change in logs hours of service I see they came out with some score card thingy. I am going to have some time to make a decision but have a mortgage and car loan to make fortunately the wife works , but not enough to handle it all. Thanks guys. and Gals

It's a whole different world from 8 years ago. Read this thread for starters.
hours of service and 34hr break i don't get it
And this one:
30 min break workaround for otrPawoodsman and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
The bigger companies are all on electronic logs now, and HOS rules have steadily gotten more strict. The E-logs are a piece of cake compared to paper logging IMO. I always ran legal when I was a roadie so being subjected to an arts and crafts project/ math homework assignment every day just to show I wasn't doing anything wrong was a nuisance and basically just got in the way of the real work. Let the computers figure that nonsense out.
Pawoodsman and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
The idiots got worse, truck drivers most of all.
Find a small company that hires real truck drivers and won't make you do a "refresher" course. Local driving even more the better, thanks to idiots who can't park unless it's in a fuel island. So parking for your rest is pathetic.
Just a few things I noticed from being off the road for 7 yrs and coming back over a year ago.
Good Luck!pattyj, blairandgretchen, Pawoodsman and 1 other person Thank this. -
Sorry you lost your job. What type of work did you do?Trucking is changing every yr from bad to worse. You're still dealing with the same idiots only you have awhole lot more to deal with. There's very few true professionals out here, trk drivers and the law.Anymore it's all about money and all about them attitudes.
blairandgretchen, dcdcwcollins, amscontr and 1 other person Thank this. -
I see you have quite a few yrs under your belt so you know the everyday crap we have to deal with.11 yrs for me this Nov.
Pawoodsman Thanks this. -
Yeah it's a shame to see an industry where drivers who once made this a proud industry be ran out by corporate thugs employing idiots by keeping pay and driver respect at an all time low. Now it's almost like companies are exploiting cheap foreign imports to fill sleeper vacancies in government housing on wheels.
When I started many of the ones I looked up to got out of it like I did to do local construction type gigs. Some have to come back because the other employment choices mean manufacturing Happy Meals or operating Shopping Cart Pushers and Floor Buffers for Peanut$.blairandgretchen, pattyj and Pawoodsman Thank this. -
Yes, Mr Woodsman, same deal. The CSA score card you mentioned has made it all the more important to refrain from feeding the bears. Lucky for you, you enter with a clean slate this time.
I assume you kept up your CDL ?pattyj and Pawoodsman Thank this. -
You can run on rollover hours (recap) if you want still to avoid the 34 hr reset.
You have to have your medical info sent into the dmv (cdl division) for your state or your license can be suspended, a lot of states have already implemented this program and you can fax the info into them.
E-logs makes it near impossible to cheat on the log, if you move it goes on after whatever parameters are set for it. I think you can move slowly in a truck stop, moving from a back row parking spot to a front row parking spot with most eobr's, or possibly a mile or so down the road if you keep the speed slow, but don't find out the hard way and get a violation trying it out. Your safety dept should be able to tell you if this is a possibility.Pawoodsman, pattyj and dcdcwcollins Thank this. -
pattyj I am a Paramedic but to be honest I need a break from it . I am good at what I do but the backstabbing in the field is so bad. I finally said enough was enough stood up for myself and was terminated. It's allot like trucking hasn't changed in 33 years either .
