For newbie drivers and those wondering, please list your idling policy here. Please indicate whether they have a device like Opti-idle or APU's on trucks. I started this thread here in case potential drivers base their company decision off their idling policy.

I love APU, always have heat/ac for winter/summer and never get in trouble for over idling.

No APU. Almost all road trucks are CARB certified
5 min idle timer with PTO override (Volvo) and throttle push override (Cummins)
Company asks us to limit idling whenever possible. For example, don't leave it idling if you are inside the lounge watching tv.
    No lectures, no penalties.

ODFL team. Idle all you like. Don't want to have mama wake up all angry.

Superior Carriers, idle when you need to. Use the mushy thing between your ears to figure out when that is. I've never had anyone say anything about "excessive" idling.

When I drove for Knight back in the early 2000's it was "SHUT THE TRUCK OFF, OR IT WILL SHUT OFF FOR YOU". It was supposed to idle at temperatures above 75 or below 34....but never did. I had to trick the computer into thing the truck was on the move by setting the trailer break only, and chocking the tractor---then put a gallon water jug on the accelerator to up the RPM's....idle as long as I needed.
Never told them what I did...and they never asked.

Aside from them jerks; I drive for people that let me do what I have to do when I have to do it.

TransAm has 5-minute cutoff timers, but 100% of the fleet is equipped with an APU.

OP great idea for a thread. Can help driver decide where to go.

Interstate: No APU, or Opti-idle. Shorepower installed w/1800 watt inverter. 5-10 idle cutoff, no override, air temp based. In other words: Less than 25 degrees or above 72, you can idle indefinitely. Of course, keyboard commandos will complain about idle percentages. Note: bunk heaters installed but use it and your batteries will be low in 6 hrs. Also, trucks have fridges and scanners installed.

Gordon: Almost all APUs, 5 min idle time.

    The Challenger Thanks this.
