I pulled some loads of cheese MADE in New Mexico (Roswell... could it have been alien cheese??) to Wisconsin. Yeah. Cheese made in Wisconsin... not so much!!!

it is now---been buying up every smaller creamery they could get their hands on last few years--almost as bad as Kraft's Forceful demolition of all their smaller competition back in the 80/90s
But(@least for now) Saputos rates hold up--& their employees seem to be happy&think pretty highly of em--
And as usual change of plans--whoda thunkd it on a holiday---coverin cust in ft. worth's butt--guess his regular guy forgot to inform him he wouldn't load last nite&leave today
So--he's meeting me at his place@noon to load Philly mkt--2moro midnite--
Boss was good to him too--reg rate(albeit a darn good one) even during holiday emergency--+300 for the bounce up from the Alamo this AM---can't wait to head into Philly on Black Friday
Ain't I lucky!

The Landscaping company was a little worse than I expected. I took a quick pic using my cellphone, so the quality sucks since the sun was in the way..

While it only took a minute to dump, it took an hour to get my truck in position. You can see the salt in that center bin, which is just a hair to the left of that fuel tank. I had to get my truck around that fuel barrel, then line up with that bin. What you can't see, on the other side of my trailer is a building. I had to come within a foot or two (literally), my front bumper looked like it was going to hit it. Even with that, I had to jack-knife to get my trailer tires to miss that fuel barrel. Then also what can't be seen, are the trees, which are on the other side the building. I wished we had the ability to slide our 5th wheel, so we could shorten up for places like this. However we don't. After getting dumped, I called dispatch and told him, asking if I was the first one to dump here. He stated that I was the 2nd, the first was his brother, that drives a 379 Pete, longer than my setup. Yeah, right. He also just laughed his butt off. You see he gets a kick out of putting us in situations like this. He does not call these places to see if it is even possible to get our trucks into them. He just books the loads, and we had better deliver, and not damage anything. By the time I got my trailer in position, I was so frustrated, that if the bed laid down, I thought oh-well, I could care less.

Now if that wasn't bad enough.... He then sent me back to load 1" x 3" rock to deliver to Claflin, which is way out by Great Bend. I was the only driver that was sent out west. All the rest were done for the week, back at the yard, when I went by to load, 11 am. From there I was to pre-load salt to be delivered on Monday. So I finally made it back to the yard at 7:30, had to fuel and Post-trip, getting to go home by 8, and my drive to my house is another 30 mins.

Now here's an interesting thing.. My little brother, is way out by Sacramento. His company sent him out there this week. He had drive in that horrible winter weather to get there. We're having Thanksgiving dinner at his daughter's home on Saturday. He hopes that he makes it back by then. He was getting loaded when I talked to him yesterday evening. The interesting part.... He was the only driver with his company that was sent that far close to a holiday. All the rest of them, there trucks parked at the yard, they get to enjoy a long holiday.

I know I shouldn't complain, as a lot of you drivers, don't have the option of being anywhere near family, but our company does not work during such holidays, so when things like this happens it's just creates discontent, drives morale down, and basically causes my Give-a-sheet meter to bottom out.

Anyhow everyone be careful, and enjoy this special time of the year, the best way you can!!! Have a Happy Turkey-Day!!!

Eaton, you are such a trooper and good employee. I find it interesting also that you and your brother are being treated the same way this holiday. I suspect your both way too nice for your own good and the nice guys finish last thingy is rearing its ugly head. Your dispactcher/boss gets a kick out of these situations you say.....I thinks he needs a swift kick.

Enjoy your posts and find them so informative and very telling about what a driver has to go and still bear the brundt of the blame if all does not go as the desk jockey planned. You deserve a better dispatcher/boss.

my regular route only has one DD in Las Vegas ................. oh well.....none in Green Bay either
